Probably My first bonsai tree will be a Ficus Bemjamina. I hope sometime it'll be as beautiful as yours. Nice work.

I noticed ladybugs and their larvae are amazing at dealing with scale insects! I had a bit of scale on one of my trees, then I put a ladybug or a ladybug larva on the tree and it immediately started feasting. On the next day, the tree was pest free! It gets more problematic when there are ants though, since the ladybug larvae don't like those. But if you kick the ants off, the ladybugs or their larvae can work! Some dinosaurs might look good in that future sequoia forest! It could make a good Jurassic Park scene :) Anyways, the Fusion Ficus looks nice! I'm sure the care it got helped.

As I have been following this tree since the beginning, I can say that Nigel is someone who understands the language of plants.

Love the tree! I'd never heard "Frankenficus" before, but it's a perfect description. Adding rubbing alcohol to your soap spray will make it more efficient; it helps dissolve the waxy coating on the scale so the soapy water can drown them.

Awesome video, you seem to be having a huge insect problem this year! I don't recall it being this bad in previous years. I'm glad that you are getting on top of it and your plants are not being seriously affected by the insect infestations that you have had. Great job!! 👏 👍 👌 🙌 🥰

I wouldn't be as patient to hand kill every little scale bug. I'd rather use an insecticide, but that's ones own opinion. Nice tree, nice job and lots of patience. Love the video

That wind chime was a clever way to create a sound effect for the videos, it helps to minimize the disturbance by engine sounds and other noise. It doesn't cover other sounds, but as a viewer I notice that the chime helps to focus.

@@TheBonsaiZone trunk and roots have an entirely different character when you look from the front or the back. In the front view the trunk is visible and it is quite clear what is going on. In the back view there are many aereal roots and the trunk is partly hidden by small branches. It looks a bit mysterious and jungle-like which I find very interesting.

Nigel, if you'd like to be more effective on treating scale insects, my cultivation and garden care teacher who is a agronomist recommended using diatomaceous earth as a combative as well a preventive method. I recommend you to search on the internet about it, it a pretty neat substance. hope it helps or just glat to let you know :)

Extra pests because of the new greenhouse? Maybe you need to a mass soap spray so the infestation doesn't just rotate amongst your trees/never going away

heartbreaking when you see one of your babies infested with scale insects. My ginkgo got hit last year and I spend an entire afternoon picking them off and cleaning the black soot. Simple Green spray and Neem Oil are my new best friend now. ❤️🙏🌲

16:49 - The 2 problems with this species : - leaf size doesn't reduce much, thus forcing a large bonsai - grows very slowly, compared to ficus religiosa Your schefflera tree looks very convincing as a miniaturized version of a big banyan tree. On internet, i have not seen any banyan tree bonsai that mimics the look of a big banyan tree. Surprisingly, other tree species imitate a banyan tree much better. I still have 1 banyan tree in my collection but i am extremely frustrated with it & might sell it off.

Don't give up hope. I have no garden any longer but a balcony where I struggle to keep the trees alive and some are indoors like ficus. My trees will never be awesome specimen but they give me joy tending them and see how they develop - that is enough for me. Most of my trees are from seeds or cuttings not so expensive. If you can keep houseplants alive you got the basic to progress in slow pace - don't be hard on yourself and if you love trees give it a try. Cheers!😊

Try to find a cheap solution for soil, and species that are good for the available windows/places you have. Some succulent are fun and easy starters, like jade or dwarf jade (if you have sunny places indoors). I really hope you can find a way to enjoy your interest in bonsai! Best of luck
