It was a pleasure watching the straps being forged, and then watching your hammer being forged. I subscribed to B&B.

Yeah ...you could buy hinges. But these will provide a sense of satisfaction that you can take pride in each and every time you look at them. I have a tool that I made 30 yrs ago....never seen another and I love using it, imperfections and all!!

Heck yeah! Made should always mean more to a craftsman than store bought. The question is, can we make the motor parts and gears to make our own metal-cutting circular saw? I probably could, eventually, but will I need to buy one to make it?
@shootermcmillan5 жыл бұрын
@@thomasarussellsr Excellent point Thomas....you've just highlighted the self sufficiency fallacy. Certainly we can and should do as much as possible to do things for ourselves, but no one person or family , or even a community can do everything all for themselves. I think many people today have this nostalgic idea of living in the woods, making everything them selves. Where they wander out and graze from their plentiful garden and wild game presents itself for the taking.....lol. I love making my own stuff when possible but trade, manufacturing, and transportation make it so we can more perfectly and efficiently apply our talents and improve our lives. Bottom line.....there is only so much time in the day.

You could always have the best of both worlds ..... extra fast "Benny Hill" type fast frame of the insulation for a few seconds just to show the guys (and galls) who are interested how it went in ;0) I think the external blower will be a good idea (maybe I mentioned it already) but the important thing is you are enjoying what you do! When you start to think you have to do something (anything) to get a video out is when you will start to have burnout problems. You are right about that hammer ..... it does look good! .......... Not as good as the anvil though ;0)

@@totherarf definitely a joke. Me and Jim joke like that all the time. Heck he even burns me on the occasional video, for all the world to see. Morning Jim. Heck yeah I checked out B&B. Seems like a nice guy. He may be just getting his numbers to a level to be monitored, but the smoothness of talking to a camera will come with practice. I SUB'd him, lets see if I can find the time to watch another channel. Heck, go back and watch the videos from the beginning of this channel. To quote Rocket from "Guardians of the Galaxie"; "He no be talking good like you and me". But he'll get there in time. I mean You did, right? Hinges are looking pretty good so far. Dear Jim, The beginning of a new era I think; someone's going to be mighty busy this winter pounding iron. At least it'll keep you warm & fit as a butcher's dog. Regarding your noisy blower, is it not possible to put further downstream rather than waste it??? Seems a shame to get rid of something that works well to begin with. I am sure you'll have a good enough solution. All the best. Kind regards.

@@TheTradesmanChannel Dear Jim, Thank you very much for your courteous & hearted reply; in that case would putting it into a box maybe lined with some insulation material to deaden the sound be something you might consider??? Jim would you be willing to make me something if I can get the pattern out of my brain? I can send you the metal and something for the time. The trick is pulling something that is way back 40 years ago in my mind. It's a simple hoof pick. The one detail I can't recall right now is how the end was bent. Single bend or a S shape bend. 40 years of brain dust on top of the image.
