Hang in there, The Kubelman. To be sure, it sucks to lose a house (and I'm not just blowing smoke here, I've lost my childhood home to fire, then my apartment to fire when I was in college). You will rebuild. And yes, you now reap the benefits of being an awesome dad, all those rides on your shoulders to the playground after working the previous 14 hours, the incessant "Hey dad... hey dad... hey dad...", the unconditional and non judgemental love, and you're able to stay with your dear daughter for a time. Rock steady, my brother - this too shall pass.

Hi Ants, great Video as usual, many Thumbs Up from Germany! Concerning the used hydraulic oil from Joseph: A guy i work with at the excavator repair shop uses the old hydraulic oil from the machines we service ( assuming it isn`t full of metal shavings or stones or smth) as chain lubrication oil for his chainsaws, and for painting his wooden sheds and gates/fences/hammer handles. He`s done that for 20 years now, and hasn`t had Problems with his saws since. And I have tried using the oil finish for wood trick on some old fende i was to lazy to replace, and it works great! The wood does`t rot as much, and water just runs off instead of swelling it :)
@shaneruff7035

@ButchE30M3S14
@ButchE30M3S14 Ай бұрын
You could re-use that oil perfectly. You just need to make a big filter system 10-20 micron. So a system that you fill up and takes a few days to filter it out. Only enemy of hydraulic oil is moisture. Also reuse your old diesel oil to treat wood, it will last forever!
@charlesK001
@charlesK001 Ай бұрын
seemed a bit milky as well i would either boil off the water (dont get much above 100c or it will boil off additive packages in the oil), or freeze it before running it through coffee filters (~20 micron not ideal but cheap and easy)...oil is too expensive these days not to recycle.
@lwwarren
@lwwarren Ай бұрын
@@charlesK001 Freezing it and filtering a few gallons at a time is much easier than trying to boil the water off.
@XMarkxyz
@XMarkxyz Ай бұрын
Also to take the water out couldn't you use some of those salts that are very hygroscopic? And then simply filter those out with the rest
@charlesK001
@charlesK001 Ай бұрын
@@XMarkxyz you could, my fear would be just with the normal absorbing salts, you start dealing with unknown chemistry. they in fact make several specialty products to do so (questionable local availability in estonia), but while cheaper than new fluid flushes they are still $$$ instead of 5$. propane is cheap and coffee filters are cheaper....both safe and effective if patient.
@charlesK001
@charlesK001 Ай бұрын
@@lwwarren agreed. but ~24 hours a gallon or two is not fast, boil and freeze are options with different drawbacks which is why i mentioned both.

Ant, you can reuse the hydraulic oil, I doubt there's anything wrong with it, most oils change color as they get used and with all the debris that must have been in the hydraulic tank from before and got stirred up from use with the new oil, it probably just changed color. Losing fuel prime could be a issue with either the injection pump or a leaky injector and it depends on which cylinder it's leaking into. Another possibility could be a loose rubber hose between the fuel tank and the injector pump or a loose gasket somewhere in the system, either around the fuel filters or one of the high pressure lines copper gaskets. Also make sure the fuel tank vents are clear so it doesn't pull a vacuum on the system which could also cause it to lose prime. You're right about the electric pump, it would work as a lift pump to feed the system but if everything works well without it, don't "fix" it lol. This was just what I needed on this gloomy overcast Friday afternoon in the state of Washington, thanks Buddy!

Joseph is back in action, and better than ever, that's reassuring to hear before that heavy nordic winter sets in. I've been taught not to use any gloves with oxyfuel welders, because the flame is hot enough to immediately ignite pretty much any material, plus if your gloves are oily, they work like a candle/torch and will melt into your skin very quickly. Also, the flame is bright enough to ruin your eyes, so please get a pair of safety glasses designed for welding torches.

If anyone is wondering why im not in the video. The answer is I don't have to be cause Ants has now the know how to fix it. I do like the belly pan modification. I would not recommend driving the thing around without the belly pan cause one branch or small tree can make a huge mess. The oil that came out is very typical color for something that has not had proper oli changes in decades. If you used the cheap oil it goes that way very fast. I use HVP 32 and 46 they never change there color. Unless you got water contamination. The cheaper end stuff dose not like getting hot at all. HVP 32 actually can withstand heat better. What to do with the old oil? Unless you have a leaky back hoe, it's just fuel for a furnace. The engine oil looks ok despite being like water. I have the blue tractor that has ruined 3 good shirts cause there is so much shmoo and old oil everywhere it's just absolutely crazy. Might have to borrow your pressure washer in the future. So sick of cleaning that thing by hand. If I would do something myself it would be fixing the fuel prime pump and some of the upper idler wheels. Everything else is fine. Btw the bird/ woodpecker in the background is right about your theory on the prime loss. Fixing the clamp and another hatch I0/I0.

The old oil, put it slowly through a good oil filter, put a speaker magnet or something on the outside of the cartridge to remove fine metal particles. The oil should be ok to use again if it is only a year old. The old sump oil that would filter and use as oil can oil, or for drilling and cutting metal.

The used oil cooks slowly and good oil settles out in layers. Also a magnet on the bottom. Perhaps one of those big clear boxes you have would work?

I suggested it to AC and Diesel Creek, they ignored me too. Lol. Dont mix hydraulic oil with engine oil if you can help it. Why? Jeez i dont know but maybe it wont be suitable for either use. Just use the used oil for oiling nuts and bolts and chain or any thing you want to lubricateand use for lighting Bonfires out in your yard, and if your dirt road gets to dusty use it on that. hope that helps. Halifax Nova Scotia Canada.
