So true about the butterflies. A relief pitcher has so much pressure on them every single time, no matter what. Much respect, and it’s part of the game that’s so important.

it must be fun being a reliever watching the gms but when you get called to come into a gm it's a quick turnaround mentally you have to be ready. i think that's tough especially when you're warming up and come into a gm not knowing how a inning could turn out. you have to be prepared and know you're role no matter what the situation is whether it's 2 on nobody out or bases loaded with 2 outs. these are the things you have to be locked in to know what to do.

John Pestano yup. Sometimes you are asked to get one out, or you might be asked to get 6 out saves, or come in for long relief... can't focus on what happened the night before.

yes but everyone is human even if you try to block those things out it can affect you but yeah no excuses as a reliever you're job is go out there and perform. you can't worry about what happened the day before but at the same time i'm saying every pitcher is different. being used twice in 2 days can affect a pitcher whether the results are good or bad not everyone has this mentality that's fair to say.

John Pestano as someone who finished playing baseball as a reliever/closer, I can tell you that we are a "crazy" bunch. We have to remain calm and get the job done even with bases loaded. If I failed, I would get the blame for losing the game.

yeah i understand that there is a lot of responsibility as a reliever no matter if you're a middle inning guy or late inning guy. you just have to go out there and do the best you can and live with the results.

John Pestano I found myself getting more upset when my teammates made an error as a reliever since I knew that the team might not be able to come back from it. However it was fun to come into a game, throw as hard as I can, get 3 strikeouts to end a game...damn I miss playing.

That was too brief. Relievers are a weird bunch, and they are a huge part of what makes the sport so special.

Does anyone know the backstory of the Diamond Dry reference Greg made. Plesac's reaction was funny but I do not know why it bothered him.

I'm surprised they didn't mention Philly's bullpen given how shitty the fans are there...

@@teaghandahlberg2706 That's great. I loved watching him on the mound. Yankees management, unfortunately, mishandled his role on the team. Torre wanted to keep him as an ace reliever; Steinbrenner & Co. outvoted him, and preferred to use him as a starting pitcher, and sometimes as a part-time reliever. It messed up his overall evolution. Then We (sadly) lost him. He still looks good, holding a mitt. Tell your Uncle, We still love him in NYC/NYS, and that he's always welcome here. It would be nice to see him at a Yankees Old Timers' Day; though, he's still incredibly young. Joba Rules.

Nothing worse for a reliever than a dry hump.
