I worked for Schneider a French company producing transformers alot of soft iron and copper is used . Two heavy machines one for guillotine function and the other a crimping machine and you have to careful not to loose any fingers each machine weight 29 kg and lifting above 1.4m was a bugger to do .

Oil tank is for the extra volume of oil. When the oil heats up during working of transformer, it expands and its volume increases. This additional oil goes to the conservator tank for storage.
