I am very impressed. 25 years in PG County Md and I can say you guys walked the dog on this one. Very organized both tactically and command. All you keyboard firemen out there. It's a one story dwelling. The proper way to tackle this fire is an aggressive interior attack with a truck company inside with hooks to pull ceiling to allow the line to hit the attack. This isn't FDNY where you have 110 firemen to overwhelm the fire with bodies. I'm thinking no more than 8 guys to start with and they put the fire out and made a rescue without cutting a roof or raising a ladder. That was text book old school.

I'm A 30 year Veteran and Retired Firefighter and I was wondering why after the search why they didn't open the roof but you explained it well. I know my department may have done it differently

More than one way to skin a cat. I worked in an area with a lot of light weight truss construction. Lot of garden apartments with open cocklots connected to multiple building. If you didn't hook the top floor right away you were going to be chasing it down the row. Ladders are for egress and rescue. We're talking one story here with limited manpower. The fire will vent itself soon enough if the engine doesn't get a quick knock down. It just seemed that putting guys on a roof was too risky considering the benefits. Respect for your 30 years and how you did it.@@richfabian6534

They could at least vented the windows. But big change for them as they usually have issues getting water on the fire.

What’s the difference between the white and brown smoke, does it indicate different conditions in the different areas of the structure.

Once you start dumping water it’s the white smoke

Why isn’t there a firewall between units? Were the units built before the requirements or do they not have a requirement in that jurisdiction. Not safe!

@@Tanks-In-Space What exactly does that mean? They need to open the roof for vertical ventilation and check for extension.

How do you open the roof if you do not have the personell on scene to do it? Priority is the victim and controlling the fire regaurdless.

You do realize that we are watching a view of the fire better than the Incident Commander had at the time. The drone sees the big picture better than people on the ground and is growing as a tool for IC's to use and make operational decisions about tactics and their effectiveness. It also brings us this footage which would otherwise not be possible once PD establishes their control lines and limits the access for photographers. 10 out of 10 for this video and your others. They are great documentation of the incident and can provide incredible training footage by agencies long after the event is completed. Thank you for your commitment to the craft.
