Nice job by the fire crews and officers. Started with water which puts out most car fires, that didn’t work. Quickly moved on to some in line foam/chem followed by regular foam which didn’t work. Foam is most useful on flammable liquids, which this clearly wasn’t. Finally succeeded with the dry chem extinguisher on the ev batteries. Good job getting the speedy dry down in front of the storm drain. Most rigs are only required to carry 1 dry chem extinguisher, fortunately they had enough units on site if they needed more dry chem extinguishers. FDNY has a dedicated purple k unit for electrical fires along with e bike and ev battery fires. Many local departments are starting to carry multiple dry chem extinguishers or contract with local fire extinguisher service companies to provide on scene delivery of larger quantities of these extinguishers when needed. Great video

Move the engine away because of the gas fire...that's a good idea! Three or four years ago the station just a few blocks from my house lost the engine at a commercial structure fire. The building was a few feet above the level of the parking lot, all of the sudden some tank of flammable liquid inside the building failed and the burning liquid came pouring out of a roll-up door that was open and they were flowing water into. I talked to one of the VFF who was there. He said, with no warning of any kind, this wave of burning liquid came pouring out the door and they just dropped the hose lines and ran for their life's. There was no hope of saving the engine. So, moving the engine so it's no longer downhill of a flammable liquid fire, good move.

In many fire videos, the start of extinguishing is really slow. This is due to the fire hydrant system and its failure, or bad ways of working, long distances. Europe and the Nordic countries, fire trucks have large water tanks and extinguishing foam for car fires. This achieves fast action, which is important to prevent the spread of fire. For example, we extinguish a car fire with foam in tens of seconds ... minutes. Of course, there are also differences in car fires, they can be difficult depending on the size of the car etc. In the majority of car fires, we put them out very quickly. In America, the car fire is turned off three times and still it starts up again...🙂 Additional training, equipment development, they would be needed in many fire stations in America.

We send one engine and one medic to every car fire unless on the highway then two engines and a medic unit is dispatched. We NEVER send anything other than a single engine on a car fire. (as long as there are no exposures) Even when we only had 500 gallon tanks. We have 3 engines, 2 ladders, a heavy rescue, medic, and chief on basic structure fires. What would be the problem with just letting the gasoline burn itself out and the units stand by to prevent it spreading? @ritirons27262 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. Take the same approach that would be used on a tank truck or even tank farms. It’s easier(and sometimes better) to just stand by and let it burn. All the resources are in place to protect the surroundings and the citizens. There are multiple engines, a quint, EMS, and law enforcement. If there is still gasoline draining from the vehicle after the fire is extinguished, it now creates a haz mat incident that needs to be controlled. Not to mention the potential for an unexpected ignition of the raw gasoline leaking and pooling in the area of the vehicle. Get all the appropriate water and foam lines in place and ready to go, secure a water supply, and stand by while it burns off.
