Some advice Simon: To eat someone you have to be at least 10% bigger. If you're not twice as big, then don't split. If you split, go wait in the corner until you merge. When there's a big blob nearby and you're bigger than 200, press W to feed the green things. When they're big enough, they'll split and go into the big blob, popping it so that you can eat its small ones.

Some tips: turn on show mass, which you get to by clicking the gear icon next to the name input box. Also, don't go for other people till you're at least 250 mass, as you're not a threat and it's not worth the effort. Instead, farm up the small pellets until you get to around 250 mass. At this point you are the prime target as most people die here, so be aggressive on people around your size by splitting (only into 2, any more is often dangerous) and you will break out into the big numbers above 1000.

Here's how to get on the leaderboard: The tactic is to eat the small bits of food and stay alive until you have around 200 size. Then you need to find people around 40% your size, get close to them, then press space and split at them to eat them. Make sure you aren't near anyone who is slightly bigger than you otherwise they might get you when you split. Once you eat someone, stay alive until you recombine then repeat until you get big. You don't need to worry about huge people at the start because it's not worth it for them to attack you. You can also hide inside the viruses when you're small. Corners are risky if there are other big people nearby. I've got to number 1 using this method.
