Would take about eight or nine strokes to do same distance so still have a lot to learn. I'm 68 and have been freediving for over 35 years now. And still only just learning how to do DNF properly.

MY longest swim was 75m (3laps in a 25m pool) many years ago. It been years and years since I was in a pool. When I did this I remember I started to swim faster to get to the wall before I ran out of air. I think this actually messed me up and if I did like this and whent slow and glided more I be able to do a longer distance. I'm actually super pumped to go try in a pool again. My city just got a huge new swimingpool place I wanna check out so.

Yes, I really love DNF. My whole live I have liked to be in underwater. But it only recently I discovered it is a actual sport 😊 So only since a couple of months I train every week in Brugge with Barracuda At the moment I’m doing 2 strokes for 15meters. And around 4 to 5 for 25. Only a speedo, googles and a weight belt. I’m going to make a nek weight for better position in the glide fase. Wil a wetsuit also be a big improvement to the glide fase?
@gertleroy
@gertleroy 11 ай бұрын
yes a (smoothskin) wetsuit makes you glide better, but you shoukd keep training without wetsuit. and the reason is without wetsuit you learn to feel the water better and your technique will become better.

I feel like my arm push and kick are ok, but during the glide I really struggle to stabilize my body in the water and keep moving in a straight line. @gertleroy

Hi Evon, thanks for reaching out! You can swim laps with only legs (arms extended in front of you) either on breathhold or surface swimming (using a kickboard). You can also just hold on to the wall of the pool and kick (stationary) or you can kick in upright position keeping your shoulders out of the water. If you need more power in your legs, go to the gym and do squats! Lots of things you can do! Let me know if it helps! ✌️

@@gertleroy ... and you can use a rubber band to prevent your knees going to far out of your body-line... this is a common "think" for no swimmers and the rubber band can help a lot to learn a better technique in no fins.
@gertleroy
@gertleroy 4 жыл бұрын
@@GehirnfaschingDD thanks Roger for the input! Allthough this is very much debatable and there is a world record holder who doesn't exactly keep his knees together.. Different styles, different preferences. But certainly worth experimenting with this! Thanks ✌️
@GehirnfaschingDD
@GehirnfaschingDD 4 жыл бұрын
Gert Leroy - Master Freediving you’re absolutely right on that... I noticed it on myself: not very good in kicking but strong legs! ;) I feel like my legs pushing me backwards sometimes and that is usually the case when the knees get too far out... but well... I would totally try out different things to get better in in no fins! :)
@gertleroy
@gertleroy 4 жыл бұрын
@@GehirnfaschingDD I think if one feels comfortable enough keeping the knees together it's probably the way to go to reduce the backward motion! If on the other hand it keeps you from kicking hard enough, then it might not be the best option. Depends a lot on knee and ankle flexibity. ✌️
