In this video I wanted to take a few minutes to show you all how I set up my table saw, wedgie sled, wedgies and saw stop.
All of these are very important in my creating process. I barley scratch the surface talk about all of these items. But it is somewhere to start.
Please let me know if you have any questions about anything going on in the video. Thanks for watching.
BE good, be safe and be happy! I'll catch you in the next one.
PEACE!
Make sure to tag me on Instagram so I can see your awesome work and talk to you about turning!

Wedgies defer from video due to new source that provides them. Have now fears, they work the same and are just as effective!

I made my own wedgies out of plywood. If you know geometry and using a protractor, it isn’t a big deal making them. Important part is making accurate cuts a tad larger than the wedgie and sanding down to the final dimension on a belt sander. But using ply wood has its disadvantage. I found on humid days the wood swells a little and knocks off the angle. Now I have gone to the dollar store and purchased some plastic cutting boards to make new ones that will not swell during humid weather.

Hey Madira, love your videos and your sled. I made a hybrid version of yours with t-track and 2 adjustable arms. One question, when you set the 2 arms using the wedgie, you said you “usually” lineup the end but it’s not important. I may be wrong but I think with 2 completely adjustable arms, the “vertical” or front to back alignment of the wedgie is critical. You can sandwich that wedgie in between those two arms and and by moving the back up and down get an infinite number of variations on your 2 angles. Am I missing something? Thanks, Chad

I found your video interesting since it did not use the curve to adjust the angled boards. In fact I did order a few wedgies from your source, Then I got to thinking and was wondering why use the wedgies at all, I have a digital angle guide for the table saw blade. Why not make sure the sled is square , then turn it on its side and use the digital angle guide to set the boards? Have you tried this?
@madiradesign
@madiradesign 3 жыл бұрын
I have not tried that. But I know that some wood turners do use that method. And It works just as well. the reason I like the wedgies is because its simple and fast. You don't need to know the angle of the segment you want to cut and fidget around with the angle gauge. the wedgies are easy and involve no math. Thats why I use them. but there is nothing wrong with the gauge.

How do you know how many segments for each layer. If you start at 12, how many in the next ring and so on? Also do you have to change the wedgie for each ring?
@madiradesign
@madiradesign 2 жыл бұрын
So, if you are doing a 12 segmented ring, there is no need to add more segments. all you will need to do for the next ring to be larger, would be to make the segment longer. so if your segments are 2 inches long I would increase the size by about an eighth. making the segments for your second ring 2 1/8 long. Might be a little confusing. I hope that helps!

A way to get close. Divide the circumference of the ring by the number of segments in the ring. This will give you the length of the long side of the segment.
