Hey Trip the Corrugated Plastic Fantastic - thank you for taking the time and effort to produce your corrugated plastic series. I plan to try your techniques out to make a custom ice bin for an ice maker.

Love your channel. Might have to start a new line of crafting in my home! 😋 Currently making one of those popular C&C cages for my pet. Sadly I cut the plastic too short! Any decent advice for mending it solidly before I continue with my project? Is my only option tape?! Thanks! 🙃
@TripTheFantastic
@TripTheFantastic 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Sadie! Tape may be your only option, unless you can overlap and zip-tie the plastic. Sometimes you can make slight changes in your design to work around issues like this. Good luck!

Super helpful! Do you have advice for painting on corrugated plastic? Especially for outdoor use
@TripTheFantastic
@TripTheFantastic 2 жыл бұрын
If you're using a discarded sign, or any sheet that's printed on one side, you can paint right over the ink. I never see much of that ink flake or wear off, and paint sticks to it well. Otherwise you'll want to use the right kind of primer. A smooth, non-porous surface is problematic for paint. I asked in the paint department at my local hardware store, and they told me what kind of primer, and paint, to use. Unfortunately I've still only painted the printed side, so I don't know how well that primer works on the plastic itself. Good luck, let us know how it works out!

Coroplast sheet is the same kind material? I wanted to buy this kind of material for a guinea pig cage I'm pretty sure you've seen on KZbin they use this material bc it's waterproof.

Yeah, same material. Guinea pig owners have some building accessories available that look pretty cool.

What make you decide to put music in your video? What were the thinking processes to decide this particular music at this level of loudness?

Thank you! Going to try this but what did you lay the board on to cut? Is it on another or plain cardboard?
@TripTheFantastic
@TripTheFantastic 3 жыл бұрын
I learned from my mistake on this one! I did use another sheet of corrugrated plastic, but it's easy to cut right through both. I didn't notice a problem when cutting on old carpet, but I sure did then cutting on my gf's table! A self-healing cutting board is ideal, but expensive, especially one that large. A sheet of plywood would work. It wouldn't have to be too thick. Choose wisely, don't make my mistake!

@TripTheFantastic
@TripTheFantastic 4 жыл бұрын
I don't think it would work so well. Maybe a band saw, with a special blade? Maybe a very fine tooth blade, or something more abrasive, more like sandpaper? Those special cutters are great for making quick cuts, but unfortunately only work for cutting between flutes, not across them. www.homedepot.com/p/6-in-Fluted-Polypropylene-Plastic-Sheet-Cutter-RD-PPC/206063531

I don't have much experience with this. Scissors don't work great even on thin plastic. A strong pair of heavy-duty scissors might be ok. Laser cutting would probably be best. You could look for a bit for a Dremel tool that would work, I have some hopes for that. Let me know what you find please!

What about curves??? Is there a secret to that?
@TripTheFantastic
@TripTheFantastic 4 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. That's a problem I haven't solved yet. So far I've reduced any curves to a series of straight lines. Experience with other materials tells me that a narrower blade will be important - an X-Acto knife equipped with a "Number 2" blade rather than a box-cutter type knife. I imagine cutting curves freehand will be a matter of drawing lines for reference, then concentrating and going slow, not trying to cut deep but getting an accurate shallow cut. Laser cutting is surely the best way to make any cut. That's something I'm researching. Thanks for the question, please let me know if you learn anything more about this. When I gain more experience I'll make an Advanced Cutting video.

@TripTheFantastic
@TripTheFantastic 2 жыл бұрын
@@tedr5182 No first-hand experience unfortunately. A laser cutter would probably be best. I want to look for a bit for the job for a Dremel tool. But yeah, if you're cutting a lot of small pieces out of a big sheet it would probably be worth taking it somewhere to be laser cut, if you don't have one.
