You really have best practices down pat. Your videos can save a lot of people a lot of heartache. And you're absolutely right about material transition areas. Dogen Zenji once famously said there's a thousand eyes on the tip of each finger. And what a great little knife! Beautiful. By far the best looking knife l have ever seen! The cut of the handle looks like a tooth. I love knifes that help bridge our past to present. Fantastic! The time span on that knife. Hundreds of years. Thousands of years. Present day. I don't think any one on KZbin has your creative abilities. This knife speaks to that. Just a little jealous! Your right. worth the effort without a doubt, looks really good, like that one a lot, would also look really good on a simple, traditional style blade like a Pukko maybe or a Yakut blade, either way well worth the effort and a great finished product, not got as far as bog oak yet, must try to grab some, on a local beach when the tide is very low the remains of an ancient forest sometimes shows so might just have to go and get some wood from there at some point

I watched the floating Scale Knife Handle tutorial earlier this morning and have decided to do the same to the knife I am designing. I need the extra metal top and bottom on the handle as the Carved Mammoth Ivory is going through the 2.5mm thick Damascus Tang and will not leave much for strength. I sent you an email a few days back and another just now. regards Barry

Totally agree, my preference would be a finger guard also but I like to make knives of all kind and this one was Japanese inspired

@@Aleeknives hidden tang plz sir. I refer everyone to you in the forums! You are the man with the little details. Well, Terrell fully explained heat treating not to long ago. I’ve had some really good looking knives turn out, but I’m out of wood due too an epic error on my last knife. I do have elk antlers though.

I watch Denis tyrell all the time! I harvest a lot of wood a couple years ago and patiently waiting 3or4 years before cutting into it! Collect it sooner than later and start the timer on the drying time!

@@Aleeknives I have Koa coming from Hawaii that I purchased from koality.com at a very very reasonable price. It’s the best deal I have ever seen for Koa. I run pretty lean on wood, I order as I need it but I forgot to Kant the block on a downward slant on a Bowie my first hiccup, then second attempt I found the guard to be uncomfortable until I ground it away to much and it didn’t look like a Bowie anymore so I ground it all away and I’m treading water now. I strictly like burl wood myself and really not anything else if I’m gonna make it; but I have antlers... it would be a bummer to fail a third time on the same knife so I probably won’t try antlers on this one, but to have future reference would be great! I’m long winded, I know.

I didn’t think about having to stabilize the Koa until right now, hmmm. Maybe not a great deal if I have to outsource. I also meant I strictly like burl unless it’s Koa

The best bog oak I have come across has been from stabwood. He sells on eBay out of Russia. Shipping times are hit or miss but every single product has been perfect and his stabilized wood is some of the best, ranks right up there with the best for a fraction of the cost. I give him an A+

This one has already had the ways re-surfaced and hand scraped some time in the distant past. The machine found it's way into the hands of a true idiot. When I got the machine they had been pumping the entire machine full of axle grease! They thought all the zeros were for grease😂🤣😂 took a good amount of time to dismantle the entire machine and clean out all of the way oil tracks
