Now that I see it,with the melting ability, even through we can see the origin, you now create a bootstrap paradox, where your pastself beat the level because his future self helped him and then he becomes the future self to do the same

If anybody reads this let me try to explain The puzzle where he moved off and back onto the cylinder: He had to move right to prevent a paradox but he couldn't without getting off the cylinder, so he moved right twice, off then onto then the cylinder, moved twice, off then onto the cylinder, moving 4 times preventing a paradox and staying on the cylinder. The puzzle with the becoming past self: The way I see it is moving from point A to point B, going into the past, past moves but not the full path, so it would create a paradox, but he becomes his past self to where he doesn't have to move to point B, then he moves from where he became his past self (point C) to point D, goes into past, and past moves to point D not creating a paradox, so by becoming past self, you are you and don't have a predetermined path and can do whatever you want. I hope this helps anyone who reads it.

Past self uses full steps to return to origin, but can't take steps on the cylinder (as it waits to be pushed). Being pushed back allows it to take steps that get "wasted" on the upper level and stay on the cylinder.

After the first mechanic felt extremely intuitive, I didn't expect that the second mechanic would completely break me... My current running theory is that taking the pill creates a time split, allowing your past self to take a different action. So for every time you take the pill, you create a timeline where you didn't finish the level.
@mathematicalmachinery79342 жыл бұрын
I think this is the most helpful explanation of the pill I have seen so far

Effectively it lets you alter the puzzle layout by adding a secret prequel. Imagine you are locked in a prison but freed by your future self. Then you travel back in time to free yourself. But how did you get out originally, how did the loop get started?! You can escape the prison some other way, using up resources and breaking the puzzle. Then you travel in time, and alter the puzzle with your prequel-changes. Then you use the power up. Now you are in the first loop again, and you aren't stuck with your destructive first approach. But your prequel alterations also remain (until you loop), so you can bootstrap the real solution.
@jucom7562 жыл бұрын
On the main menu you can see the temporal loop of a level in action, which makes understanding why something isn't a paradox easier, but tyler always skips those so i'm gonna have to get the game myself

what is going on with the weird line goal thing is that he is bringing the world's state back in time, it is essentially a restart but the world stays the same. to end the level his future self must set up the world in that same way, preventing a timeline paradox.

the new mecahnic was confusing at first, but here's how i'm thinking about it: the thing you collect is sort of a "reaction" to use in a parallel timeline. normally, the game only lets you have one timeline, and obv you need to end on one timeline so that it can bootstrap itself. but to create that timeline, your past self will do the exact same actions. now, your past self can "react" to your future self, and do something different. It's like, you're going about your day and suddenly your bridge dissapears and your future self tells you "hey, take this time machine and go press that button!" you wouldn't have done that otherwise but you will now.

All you really need to understand this game is that every time you time travel you are entering a *new* timeline. I will explain. Try imagining in real life: In universe U1, at t=0 min you begin the experiment, holding a time battery. You wait 2 minutes. Nothing happens. At t=2 you enter the time machine and insert the battery to travel back to t=1. In U1, you simply disappear from the timeline. The machine depletes the battery. In U2, at t=0 you begin the experiment, holding a time battery. You intend to wait 2 minutes. At t=1 the version of you from U1 appears inside the time machine and steps out, without a battery. At t=2 you enter the time machine and insert the battery to travel back to t=1. You disappear and the machine depletes the battery. The version of you from U1 is left in your place, but without a time battery. You can keep iterating on this analogy to get closer with each mechanic, but the game is fundamentally really simple and doesn't need words.

I think if this game rather than literally record what you did, it should let you control steps of your "past" self. As in, a button to have the past run along its course. It would take away challenge of timing things, but delete the tedium of waiting to make sure everything syncs up.
