I wouldn't say that Terraform is treating infra as immutable. This is mostly only the case for VMs. Most TF resources are updated by their respective provider instead of being replaced. That said, I am a big fan of the immutable infra approach. Docker containers made it popular and applying the same approach to VMs has many benefits like being able to lock down the network or being able to promote the VM images.

For me this is too strict. It is also (pretty easily actually) possible to setup a complete infrastructure with ansible alone. So if I have one tool to chose I'd go for ansible as it covers the whole lifecycle. besides it would not make any sense to me to use two tools if I can achieve exactly the same with only one, which makes the whole solution more consistent.

I work in an azure environment as a cloud admin. How long would it take me to learn terraform and ansibile with no experience?

This was a great video. I’m familiar with Ansible, and have never used Terraform, but see and hear about it a lot. This video broke it all down very well. Thanks.
