Working with Your Literary Agent to Sell Your Book

Love your videos! I had a little question even though this is not popular these days. How do agents go about selling a series? Do they do book by book or as a whole?

Hi! This will depend on the series and the publisher, but lots of series get sold as multi-book deals. So the publisher might buy 2 or 3 of the books right off the bat if they believe the series has potential. However, if you have an epic debut series with 6 books, they probably won't buy all of them at once, but they might still buy more than 1.

I know this is an older video, but I still have to ask: What if the author is stuck at a full time job and is not able to always contact by phone because their job doesn't permit personal phone calls? Is contact by email acceptable, or text messages? Is outside 9-5/m-f hours still okay to contact?

Most agents prefer email.
