I don’t think the dash pad from a Caprice will fit a Fleetwood. The reason I mention the Roadmaster and Caprice in the title is because since they’re basically the same car, the removal process should be similar. But I don’t think they use the same dash pad.

Steven, thanks for the great video. It made removing a dashboard pad at the junkyard easy. I was lucky enough to find one in great shape that had been recently recovered. Now, I'm trying to remove the dashboard cover from my car. I've done everything by your video; 2-black 10mm, 2-7mm, and 2 screws under the vent. I can't get the pad to budge, any suggestions? Thanks Tom
@WorkingWithWimberley

I would look at the screws under the defrost vent again. If I remember, there were actually 4, but only two hold the dash down. If you remove the wrong two, it won’t come out.

Bingo! Got it. There were only 2 screws. I gently pryed the front where the #10mm bolts were, it released. I also noticed slight differences between my 94 FW dashboard top and the 93 FW dashboard replacement from the JY. On the side defrost vents, by the driver and passenger front window the 94 has a small grill whereas the 93 has rows of perforated holes. I think everything will be good to go when I get the pad back from the upholsterer. Thanks Tom

Luis Carlos Thanks for the support & be sure to subscribe if you haven't done so already! The chrome trim is held in with bolts/screws and plastic clips. As the cars age, the plastic clips can become brittle and break. I would loosen the bolts and screws, try to adjust the trim and then tighten them back down. If it needs glue, I prefer to use E6000 or Goop.

ThatVenomousCat96 Thanks for watching & be sure to subscribe! I absolutely think this is possible to do in a Roadmaster. The assembly may not be exactly like the Fleetwood, but it should be close. My original plan was to sand down the humps and fill the cracks with body filler. I ended up finding a nice dash pad in a Fleetwood at the junkyard, so I just covered that one instead of repairing my original one. But I originally planned on repairing the cracked dash and recovering it. It will be some work, but you can definitely do it!

@@WorkingWithWimberley A big thank you for the links. Have you used the stuff for other car projects? I'm wondering how fade-resistant it is. My FWB has a charcoal grey metallic exterior with a 2 tone grey interior, primarily light grey with parts like the dash pad a darker grey. I was considering recovering my pillars with something fleece-like since the factory cloth looks very much like light grey fleece, but the suede fabric looks MUCH better in your car. I wish they offered a light and dark grey, but I think I'll order a yard or 2 of the grey they have and see if I can make it work.
@WorkingWithWimberley
@WorkingWithWimberley Жыл бұрын
@@mpikas No problem! Yes, I’ve used it before and I haven’t noticed any fading. But the longest one has been three years and going so I don’t know exactly how long it will hold up, but so far so good on 3 years. I’m actually doing suede in my CTS right now. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2Tdnpd7bal9frs Also, I switched to 3M Super 77 adhesive because it’s easier to work with and is tacky immediately. I haven’t had any issues, but I’m sure if you search the internet there’s probably something even better you could use.
@mpikas
@mpikas Жыл бұрын
@@WorkingWithWimberley Honestly, even 3 years and still looking good is a good deal, I've seen some fabric fade appreciably in a few months, and colors like blue tend to be the worst. If the grey is a nic e grey I'll probably try it. Super 77 is my go-to for this kind of stuff. There are a few others, the 99 is stronger but also more likely to soak through, and you don't really need it for this kind of thing. I was wondering if you had video of doing it because mine doesn't look as flat as yours, and I suspect that I'm at a minimum going to need to do some sanding, filling, and maybe a 1/8 or 1/4" thick layer of foam. Thanks!

I got it from a local “pull it yourself” junkyard. I then covered it in suede.

I just got a 94 they have the carpet on the dash. No offense but I hate that look lol glad I found this video. SpraywayCustoms on KZbin has a video where he repairs cracked dash boards. Worth checking out too.

I actually covered mine with suede, it’s not carpet. But it’s cool lol! Beauty is subjective. Do what you like. And I’m actually subscribed to SprayWay and I’ve exchanged some messages with him. I’m a fan of his work. 💪🏽

Another question did you replace the whole dashpad? If so where'd you find it? If you don't mind sharing. Or did you cover it yourself with suede? Apologies for being worrisome.

@@pettischristopher Again, much appreciated!! And overall, the channel has a 98% like rating average. That’s pretty good. The 2% dislike people don’t matter lol.
