They just need to be large enough to slide over the bolts you decide to use for the project. Cheers!

My 400 is a garbage day "pick-up." I have seen more since. It appears that the biggest problem is the use of particle board, which is subject to water damage. I have considered substituting it with TREX or possibly ipe, due to the vulnerability of the particle board. I wish that there were such aftermarket ready-made table surfaces available, as all the drilling and marking look like a major project. What would it add to the unit price for B&D to use a durable surface material, or is that sort of a planned obsolescence?

Have not been able to find replacement top for my 400. Will use 2 pieces of 1/2 ply glued together for 1 inch thick.

Thanks! I like the shelf idea - will try it this weekend. The extra dog holes in the middle panel seem to be a good idea. I've ordered an extra set of dogs. My old Workmate was ruined by some longterm exposure to something, so I tossed it years ago. Santa brought a 425 this year.

WorkMateGuy the legend, I heard about your channel. I have the 400 and going tomorrow to pick up a 550 for $25 tomorrow

Sounds like a great deal at $25 even if she needs a little love.

I've only ever had the 400. Bought 30 years ago new. I think the 425 is superior on the clamp pivot mechanism. But, I should mention that when it works properly on the 400 its not that difficult to lock in place. You pull the two circle knobs out while your raise it with your forearms and once its in the vertical position it locks easily. But my unit doesn't have the wear that I see on yours. The top panel does warp as you stated just from normal humidity so I will be replacing mine soon and giving the table a tune up with new knobs and dogs and feet. Mine came with the 1/4" masonite insert, very useful for organizing tools on site or even in the garage. Something I would definitely do with a 425. Great video, thanks.

about three weekends ago i got two workmates from facebook marketplace( workmate 400 and the 550) both for 40 dollars. i have to change the wood panels and that's it! The workmate 400 is made in USA, the steel is thicker than the new ones made in china.
@aldegin5 жыл бұрын
I was cleaning the other one, the 550 and i found that is made in Canada! The label on it has in its corner 425 wm, maybe because in Canada is 550 and here is 425 wm.
@WorkMateGuy5 жыл бұрын
Yes, for some time there were manufactured in Canada.

Hello - had my 425 drive belt break recently. I have a replacement belt but can’t figure out how to get the old belt off and the new one installed. Can you please do a video about belt replacement?
@WorkMateGuy2 жыл бұрын
Replacement is simple. Get the belt fully applied on one side. Then on the other side squeeze part of the belt onto the nipples and crank in the direction that will pull the rest of the belt on. Cheers.

I just picked up a 400 and would like to replace the panels. I would also like to add a 3rd panel. I know the metal indexing nut is no longer available, I did see your video on using a 2x8 to make replacement panels on the 425. What hardware will I need to add the 3rd panel on the 400? I was a little confused on the video about eliminating the plastic slide indexing bracket and replacing it with a bolt. Would I remove all 4 of the plastic indexing brackets and replace them with 6 bolts (2 per panel) with the new top or do I need to buy 2 extra indexing brackets for the 3rd panel I want to add? Any other considerations with replacing the panels on a 400? The ones that came on my 400 are good enough to use for a pattern if I need to use them. Thanks for your help.

[What hardware will I need to add the 3rd panel on the 400?] If you use 2x lumber the hardware for the third panel will be the same as the other 2. [Would I remove all 4 of the plastic indexing brackets and replace them with 6 bolts] - Yes, this keeps them all the same height. [Any other considerations with replacing the panels on a 400?] I suspect I covered everything in the videos. Did see the video about the dimensions for the replacement panels? Thanks for stopping by and posting your questions. And congratulations on your new old Workmate 400 I know you will get some good use out of it.

i recommend you to use a piece of hardwood 1'' thickness, is better because it is going to be more strong.

The assembly instructions on the 425 are awful. I had to use a KZbin video to put it together.
