Watching your channel has really made me want to start a knife/tool sharpening business. I live in Europe and there is barely any in my area. What advice would you give someone like me? Thanks

I’d say the biggest piece of advice is invest in good equipment from the start. If that means saving up and waiting a little bit you will save money in the long run. Secondly, test every item you sharpen prior to sending it back to the customer this will eliminate returns and will gain a extremely positive reputation. Thirdly, keep your turnaround as low as possible. I try my hardest to have a 24hr turnaround. I have installed a key coded drop box that allows customers to drop off at their convenience and also allows them to pick items back up without me needing to be there. If you’d like to discuss more on how I operate feel free to email me at ecrisler@acutaboveknifesharpening.com

@@ACutAboveKnifeandLeather Thanks man I really appreciate the advice. One more question I have, when you are testing a customer's blade after a sharpen, do you use the paper cut test?

Yes I test with very thin catalog paper. If it cuts that they are good to go!

I need to overhaul my 3000 because it’s developing a serious wobble. Any experience getting the hitch out of the 3000’s giddyup? -CY Castor

I actually just experienced this today with mine. I primarily only use it now to flatten the backside of chisels. What I found was some debris on the rubber washer on the spindle under the glass platen that created a horrible off balance. Took the washer off and ran it without and had no issues for 200 plus more chisels. If that isn’t it I suspect a bearing is out on yours. Very simple machines. Drive motor connects to spindle via belt, couple bearing on the spindle to aline everything

Awesome video. I was expecting it to be sharper but I don't know what angle you used. I would have stropped it with leather and a stopping compound. Then I bet it would have taken all that work to the bank. Either way, you got my gears turning. I have the worksharp, Ken Onion for my knives but I might look into this.

These turn out razor blade sharp. The last wheel I use on the work sharp machine is a leather wheel with compound applied to it. I usually sharpen all manufacturers angle unless customer requests something different. These I believe were 25 degrees
