I can’t even express what just happened. Several decades of togetherness- I shyly asked my guy if he would dance with me. As I loaded your lesson on the tv he saw that you offered simple step by step direction. He is a great guy he just sees himself as a non-dancer. With your careful instruction and my ear to ear smile encouraging him along, he danced with me. Heart swell!!!

大学のサークル活動でワルツを踊ることになったのですが、どう踊ればいいのかわかりませんでした。この動画を見て、ワルツの基本がわかりました。これから一生懸命練習します。 I had to dance the waltz in a college club activity, but I didn't know how to dance it. This video helped me understand the basics of the waltz. I will practice hard from now on.

I have been dancing for several years, and now teach beginners in my small town. I have seen many teachers and many videos. I have watched your various videos, like the rumba arm movements and all these technique videos and they are exactly what I need! For myself and to teach! In this video, I absolutely love how you are teaching them not only dancing but also etiquette. I will incorporate that into my classes. :) You inspire me to teach better!

I'm so grateful you do the exercise while explaining the music. So true about the singers' license (I think the addition of lyrics to, for example, ice skating, has really been not to skaters' advantage.) Knowing the emphasis and hearing that in the musicians' playing is so important.

I know that because the Natural Spin Turn's steps 4-5 with its R turn is like a R pivot action, I know that to lead the lady into that spin turn easily, I will need to have a CBMP on steps 4-5 on my L hip to get that spin turn well, just before I end that spin turn with my back open step (LF) on step 6 of the figure. Indirectly, this figure in waltz is one of my favorite continuity figures at the basic level.

The background noise was infuriating, but this was first-class instruction. I did Ballroom, Argentinian Tango. and Latin for years under three instructors. The best ones were the calm ones like this chap, who is clear, concise and without drama queen spitefulness of many dance instructors. I suspect that this class had been dancing for a year or two, judging by their posture and gracefully controlled rise and fall.Very enjoyable, brought back very happy memories for me, thank you from Scotland :-).

I learned from watching seasoned dancesporters in International Standard, and social-level dancers in Standard doing the waltz, about how I can rise and fall on the feet at the exact time, at this most gentle of Modern dances. 2 of my dance teachers told me that you are supposed to rise at the start of 1, continue to rise on beat 2, and lower on beat 3, and at the second half of beat 3, fully lower to full weight before beginning movement of the rise and fall in the next measure with the same aforementioned technique. By the way, waltz comes from the German word, "waltzen", which means "to turn", and the first prelude of the waltz seems to be the American-style figure of waltz especially in Austria way in the past, called the "Laendler". American-style because the Laendler allowed for open movements away from Closed and PP holds. This led to the American Smooth Waltz style in the United States. The English Waltz came out of that and the open work moves were eliminated there, only allowing moves in Closed Hold and PP hold, although OP and PO positions are allowable.

Is reverse box and natural box the same thing with reverse turn and natural turn? And does every time you do natural or reverse turn do you actually have to face diagonally to the wall
@EgilsSmagris3 жыл бұрын
Box turns 90 degrees or 1/4 turn per bar (123). Natural Turn turns 135 degrees or 3/8 of turn per bar (123). Lady starts Natural Turn backing diagonally to Wall, second bar moves down line of dance. Closed Change backind diagonally to Center. Reverse Turn Lady starts backing diagonally to Center, second bar down line of dance. Closed Change backing diagonally to Wall.

I was following your video and practicing at home but something didn't seem right. When I used to take ballroom lessons, we were taught the follow (lady) steps would be left foot forward/right foot back. You are teaching this the opposite way, is there a reason why?
@EgilsSmagris5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Sara for your question. If we learn Natural Box and Natural Turn, then Lady should start with left foot backwards. If we learn Reverse Box and Reverse Turn, then Lady starts with right foot backward. I prefer to start teaching Natural Turn (turning to right, because it’s easier for beginners). Anyway you have to learn both turns. Hope it helps!

And that is the correct way I have posted before ton Engils on the quickstep about the right foot gentle, I,m 86 years old started dancing 1946, with all due respect Engils you are nice dancer but teaching students to wrong you are the only instructor who does this, every ballroom dance a gentleman leads with his left, only exception I know of a lady leading is the Argentine tango, when your students go dancing anywhere in the world they will be confused because their partner will start with the opposite turn, I,m sorry I don,t mean to offend you, but as an oldtimer dancer it bothers me.

Thanks Hamish for suggestion and I agree with you. When we dance closed change with Right Foot- steps are same as beginning of Box Step with RF. When we dance Closed Change with Left Foot, then Step are the same as Box with Left Foot Forward.
