In this longer video I make a start on the workshop makeover, reusing some of my cabinets from the Cabinetry basics series - mostly to get them out of the way - and using up some old boards I used to use as scaffolding, to make some open shelves. Enjoy!

Ahhh the end credits. It's so lovely to try to do something like that yourself without help. It's sometimes so annoying when you'd need help for one minute job, but no one is around and you have to fiddle around for quite sometime. I immediately thought the bench of shame was the topic. Phew! It lives on. The catharsis of workshop organisation and the 'well that's just right' satisfaction you've got it sorted until it needs rejigging to accommodate more new kit has to be common ground for so many small workshop owners.

At first glance, the video is one of many ... BUT it contains an incredible amount of knowledge and clever solutions👍 Alignment with the long spirit level. Rails for the drawers (fast, accurate, cheap ... like everything in this project). Offset of the middle part (which is not only a design element, but also hides a possible horizontal inaccuracy). Marking the holes in the wall ok, ok ... I knew already the one or other, but you showed how to do a project like this fast, accurate and economically, without neglecting the design. I will „take over“ the construction of the drawers for my mobile welding station. probably with small rollers on the top upside down near the frontside, to keep the drawers as horizontal as possible when pulled out and still remain smoothly. 🙂

Hey mate, sparky in Australia here. If you're looking to get the best colour you can out of those LED's for your videos the aluminium extrusion with defuser you can buy the strip's with (from a electrical wholesaler, lighting shop, online, etc) they spread the light out mote evenly, it's cleaner and easier on the eyes also the little square shadows that'll reflect onto the wall won't be seen. Ultimately doesn't matter, this is a lil feature for your shop and videos not a client's home its something that is hard to pick up on when the camera is so far away but it'll be noticeable in the dark

When i was building houses in Vegas in the 2001, to 2005 boom, one of the sales fell through, and the new buyer upgraded the kitchen. So, the cabinet shop had to pull all the kitchen cabinets out and replace them. Resulting in them having a full set of cabinets with no home. So, one of my coworkers asked the cabinet shop, how much it would cost to buy them for his garage. The cabinet guy asked him where he lived, so he could figure travel time. He goes home form work two days later and notices a bit of saw dust in the driveway. When he opened the garage door he got a shock. The cabinet shop had sent over a crew, and his entire garage had new cabinets. Only downside was that everything that had been on temporary shelves or pushed up against the wall was now in the middle of the floor.

Great tip with the long spreader clamps as props, Peter. Those lights looked pretty good at the end too. I'm slowly getting my own workshop under control, but I could really use a second, identical empty workshop where I could stash everything while I get the first one sorted out!

Holy cow you have a lot of routers!!! Nice work. I’m going to be tearing out my garage shop and pouring new concrete floors and new cabinets this year; it was originally built in 1927-28 timeframe. I will have to consider using some of the LED lighting like you did.

Congratulations! Nice! Monday this week I refitted about the first 8 feet of wall space as I walk in my shop. Friday I still walk in the shop and my mind goes “WHAT”! Well it has been 20 years since the last go round. Thanks, but I didn’t think about LED’s!

You said your workshop was cluttered, to me it's very, very tidy! I have a 10' X 20' garage workshop in the back garden jammed to the rafters (literally) and surplus tools, timber, paint etc. seem to 'flow' into my kitchen, lounge and spare bedroom. (You've probably guessed I am a bachelor). My brother thinks I am mad since his house is really clean and tidy, but he's happy to have me round doing odd jobs as and when needed!
