I had a request to show in video how I strip down and clan a Tri-ang power bogie. This little Dock Shunter that came to me damaged and missing some motor components provided the perfect opportunity. It was an unknown to me as to whether or not I would be successful or not.
I experienced problems with my old camera stopping recording which caused a few re-takes and splicing together of clips.

Enjoyed watching this while I had my morning coffee. Fiddley work, but a great service and nice to see it running again. Those knurled wheels can sure make a racket!😉😂 Thanks for posting!

Thank you, I am enjoying my morning coffee as I read your comments. The Tri-ang models were simplistic, solid and easy to work on. The sound from the knurled wheels was/is probably their best attribute, they didn't really help much with traction and the clog up with the normal rail gunk and are quite difficult to clean. Regards, David.

I am very impressed with your restorative abilities, David. I'm glad that you could clean and rebuild this old locomotive. A huge thumbs up to you.

Thank you Andrew. As you could see Tri-ang encouraged home repairs by selling the equipment and manuals to do it. I was taking these things apart when I was 10 yrs. old and I never "lost" one. It's fun. Cheers, David.

Hi Ray, thank you. There are very few parts with these really so quite easy to work on. I did use up most of the parts I had so I won't be doing another anytime soon. Cheers, David.

Hello Oscar. As you know, these are not too difficult so I was quite confident in the outcome. The knurled wheels show hardly any wear so they certainly put out that Tri-ang sound. Regards, David.

Congratulations on a successful locomotive rebuild David. Really enjoyed watching you in action at the workbench, in spite of the camera woes (which really did not significantly interfere with the demo). Thanks as always.

Hello Art, although quite a few critical parts were missing once I had taken a look through my parts tray I had little doubt. The camera certainly interfered with the demo at my end. It stopped recording the moment I sat down but I did not realize that until I had completely stripped the loco down so, in order to stick with the plan I had to completely rebuild it and start again. Part way through the second strip down it did it again and once more I had completed the work before I knew it wasn't recording so, I reassembled it back to the point at which it quit and then I did it again. The rest was all editing. I got there in the end. Thank you for your ongoing support. You challenge me sometimes with your comments and I like that. Regards, David.

Excellent stuff David, you have it running well and I bet as the brushes bed in it will get even better. Hope you find a spare bulb. Great to watch, all the best to you

Thank you Jonathan, as long as I had the various missing parts I was quite confident, the sad thing about the bulb is that I broke the wire off as I tightened the last screw. I think I will try to do an LED conversion. Regards, David.

Such simple basic workings and once you get your eye in great fun to work on Rewarding too, and to bring to life a once dead loco. Couldn't do it with the modern stuff it's a nightmare just trying to get bodies off!!

Couldn't agree more Paul. I started working on these Tri-ang models when I was about 10 years old and now I hate trying to do anything with the modern stuff. Cheers, David.

Anytime you turn on the camera, everything goes wrong. LOL that you stripped the loco 3 times. I was watching the coffee cup decrease in ligquid in the beginning, but then it completely went away.

Hi Heath, the poor old camera has just about had it's day I think. I came to the conclusion that the coffee mug was taking up too much of the screen area so I put it behind the camera. The mug by the way was my Didsbury Alberta CPR station mug. Cheers, David.

Great workshop David. Is that triang track? What was the issue with tgd light? Thanks for sharing this Cheers Charlie
@trainsontuesday
@trainsontuesday 7 ай бұрын
Hi Charlie. Yes, it is Tri-ang Super 4 track. The circuit of track was what I had in my shed last winter, I don't have anything in there this year. My main layout , the Highland Valley Railway, is an HO scale CN based layout in my basement. The light on my dock shunter was the old original 12v. incandescent bulb, probably 60-65 years old. It had been working but it appears that I broke a wire right at the glass. An LED would probably be my choice for a repair. Cheers and Happy New Year. David.

I watched Lakeside convert his to DCC, which was interesting and he pointed out in order for it to work you need to have insulated wheels
