Hey jingles have your ever done model kits on things like ships and stuff because let me tell you personally the models they have on ships like prince of Wales and ships like Edinburg is excellent they got 1-200 scale and 1-300 scales and 1-500 and they are so well made as long as you look for the right brand .

It'll be more forgiving than trying to replicate a real world item or trying to add detail to a mostly blank canvas so should ease you back into things rather than chucking you in at the deep end with a concrete overcoat :P Also might be worth pinning the comments to vote on so they don't get lost. Just a thought...

Townhouse will be the best thing to knock the rust off your hobby skills. Terrain in general, and especially older buildings, are particularly forgiving. Just remember to wash the resin in warm, soapy water and scrub it with an old toothbrush. The release agent will make your paint come right off...always as soon as your happy with a section of paint.

I'm for the house. Not only is it cool to look at, but if you have no intention of leaving it open you can use the interior spaces to trial your ideas for making the alien pieces have depth and interest with near all black features.

I'd suggest doing the medieval town house first as it is probably the more straight forward one. Then I'd probably do the big Alien head next. The bigger one will be more forgiving and you can use it to learn how to make black interesting. I'd also suggest watching a couple of Adam Savage videos on Tested as in some of them, he goes into detail about how to make mono-colour models interesting (The iron man suit for example)

Id say the Townhouse, I think its something that is unique in your collection, and something diffrent from all the other stuff. and it make for a great video length if thats what youd like, as theres alot of detail that can be painted in! but honestly, do what you are most excited about as you will have the most encuragement/motivation to see it finished! I myself am trying to finish models that ive collected and this video has inspired me to get going again! im currently working on a airfix spitfire! till next time! happy modeling Jingles!

I love the Takom naval weapon system kits. Your shelf of guns makes me nostalgic for the '90's. As a kid, I made about 20 of those 1:1 scale firearm kits. They were awesome. It's a Shame they are next-to-impossible to get these days, except expensive Chinese Lego-knock-off versions

Jingles, be careful with the sea dart kit. Its tolerances are VERY tight when it comes to adding the launcher base and ammunition elevators to the base. Haven't built the sea wolf yet, so can't comment on its fit. Also, if you're after accurate paint for it, I'd highly suggest the colourcoats brand made and sold by soverign hobbies here in the UK. Their paints are possibly the most accurate for RN paint.

My vote is for the Alien statuette. My recommendation is to prime black and then use a grey and metallic highlights on all the raised 'bumpy' parts. The teeth are dirty burnished steel colour. I've seen 40k Tyranid army painted this way and you wouldn't think a simple colour scheme like that looks so sharp, but it is really striking if you make the grey and metal light enough to pop out of the black background.

i like all those models but for me i would love to see you do the Croation ye olde house, i used to paint slightly similar things for Frazer creations in Penicuik Midlothian in the late 80's when i first left school....yes i actually had a job painting little collectable houses Edinburgh castles Scots monuments etc etc made from resin and plaster, i loved the job itself... even though the money was crap, the company one day sacked all of it's painters because it was cheaper to mould the models here in Scotland, ship them to China to be painted then ship them back here to be sold than it was was to pay people here to paint them....thanks China...

My dad served on HMS Bristol and so my eye was immediately drawn to the Sea Dart and the rather fetching dummy missiles in red (I recall the proper ones that actually did something were white). So that would be my choice and obsolete RN technology is much rarer than Alien stuff!

I'll chime in with recommending the alien head. But I have reasons why. It's broad, wide surfaces and relative lack of detail will make it a fairly easy job to get back into the swing of things. The other models are all small with lots of finicky bits to paint or highlight, and are better done when you've heightened your enthusiasm again. My favorite is the resin shack, but that's going to be a lot of work to get looking right. By the way, the trick to painting "black" is to not paint it black. Start with a base coat of a dark color like charcoal gray and then add darker colors and black to fill in shades and other colors like dark greens and browns to give it contrasts. The idea is that it gives the impression of black from a distance while highlighting the details.

Sea Dart and here is the reason. Alien head (second place): Larger format may require blending as more minute details are visible. If it doesn't require learning new techniques maybe move it into first place. Fecal/fetal Alien (Why it squatting like that?): Lots of little details may be harder on the eyes. Town House: I believe the amount of detail would necessitate a great amount of planning making this an extended project Sea Dart is a more conventional Model you may more easily produce in your new environment using basic methods. Production easier allowing you to adjust to your new shop.

I would say the Town House. It looks the more interesting out of the 4 choices. Oh and Jingles. Us modellers call it "The Stash", and its not an issue to have a large one lol. In fact, I would say its a requirement with being a true modeller to have a large stash.

The ultimate choice is up to you. I will say if you want something quick and easy to get going, do the Alien head, and work on your layering of paint, wet and dry brushing. I'd probably use metallic dark blues to tone the black over a base of flat black. If you want a challenge, the risen house would be awesome and the different effects you could do with that level of detail on that piece is off the chart.

Jingles, I hope you are doing well. Good to aee this section comming back. I have to agree that the townhouse would be the best to get back in. I think it will require the least amount of brainpower and it will be very forgiving, so you can just enjoy putting paint on it without the need to be “accurate”. Hope my 2 cents help. Cheers! 🍻

But as a D&D gamer of more years than I care to think about (lets just say I am very familiar with the first print of the monster manual) I'd love to see what textures you go for or create when painting it! Well, the town house will take about a month, but to me, is the most interesting one. However, I think I'd start with the alien head, just to get back into it, and get your sea legs back, THEN go back into some really intricate stuff.

I would do the alien models first; if they fit together properly they shouldn't take long to prepare, with the low component count (1, in one case); then shouldn't be very long to paint them. Then you could seriously go to town on the house. The missiles, I would leave until last; they are a plastic kit I have never tried myself, so anything could go wrong and delay you for quite some time. Good idea on the vow to make progress before buying anything else, but I remember trying it once and it didn't work.

Oh I am very keen on seeing the townhouse. But if/when you do the Alien stuff, my inexperienced advise for making it "interesting" amounts to just painting as many layers as possible in different colors. Not just dark colors either, slap a layer or two of hot pink and neon blue on there, so long as subsequent layers are darker it won't do anything but add some texture as the light bounces off the layers. Also, maybe paint some blood and gore on the teeth and/or claws?

I would do the house first, the Aliens would need a light two tone color. Black and maybe some kind of very light silver or a black hole color over a flat black maybe and a lot of brush work to bring out some highlights.

Personal preference would be for the house (current favorite book series is Rangers Apprentice by John Flanagan), second choice would be the missiles (never did like Alien much....), I think the house has the best amount of scope for detail without being 'wrong' on anything.
