People who have never gone through that with a bench grinder don’t REALLY know what it’s like to want a belt grinder. It’s like a rite of passage: you must wear out at least one bench wheel before you get a fancy belt setup.

Great video. You have some new innovations, particularly the use of a compression counterbalance instead of an expansion spring. Don't know why more people don't do that. Expansion springs break all the time. Since you don't have a mill you should use your plasma cutter more often. It seems to leave a nice clean edge. Loved that you slotted with it. Would have liked to have seen how it did on the curved slot. I really enjoyed watching you work. Looks like this 4th of the July weekend I'll be starting on mine. Sorry honey.

Wow truly a nice simple effective machine. You should be very proud. I made one a couple years back just out of scrap and a treadmill motor. I had like 3 bucks in it and though it does still do a good job I thin it is time to do another one right. I will be blending a few that I seen Together but this is really close to what I want to build.

After watching well made video production and quality builds I stumbled on this video and I’m like: boy that is some crude rough measuring and all… then I’m like… man that’s still better than what I would muster up. Good job

That's true. If you make a disk sander from the pulley on the motor, this machine will be more useful. Since i built mine, i can sharpen my drill bits accurately. Sorry for spamming, but here is mine: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hF6lZWCMjtaXac0

I like this design. The circumfrence of the wheels on the grinding surface and backing plate should be colinear. This will ensure no space between the belt and backing plate. Your setup has about 1/8th space between belt and plate. This will give bevel grinds a radius.

Hey Shane; I liked and enjoyed this build as well, but if you're interested in a belt grinder build that truly out does them all, here's pt 1 [below]: Granted; in order to duplicate this build you'd need more than just DIY hand tools, but even so a version of this could be built on some level. Anyway it's great just watching + there's many good ideas. Enjoy! kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZKsh62af5eJa9k

You have a plasma cutter, so when you want to make those degree plates just take a piece of flat bar and drill 2 holes, 1 for the plasma torch and one for where from a center point your anchor will be, then just attach your flat bar to your anchor point and put on the torch and turn the bar. This way you'd be done in 1/100th of the time compared to drilling holes and filing.
