Is there any chance that when you lose experience you lose EVs? That would explain why when some Pokémon leveled down they would suddenly be much worse in battle, maybe their EV stat went from 0 to -255 or whatever

Oh, the reason Marrill didn't faint immediately when it leveled down around 9:45 probably has something to do with the Pomeg glitch. In Pokemon Emerald, using a Pomeg Berry on a pokemon with 1 or 2 HP left caused their HP to drop to 0. I'm not entirely sure of the specifics, but I'd guess the game only checks whether to apply the Fainted status on certain triggers, such as after applying damage. As a practical matter, this glitch could be exploited to battle with an Egg and hatch it directly into an already evolved form, or with high level moves.

Struggle in earlier gens did recoil based on the damage done not a fixed %, usually not relevant but it does come up in some of the Battle Factory. But also, Wobbuffet is banned from using leftovers in gen 3, if two Wobbuffets ended up facing each other it would cause an infinite stall. They couldn't switch due to shadow tag they would pp stall each other until they struggled but because their attack is so low and their hp is so high, leftovers would outheal the recoil and struggle damage, causing them to be locked in an eternal battle.

16:28 They most definitely changed Sturdy in Gen 5, because I remember _very clearly_ how annoying it was to go through caves in Unova because all the Roggenrola and Bouldor would survive your easy 1-shots via Sturdy. If you didn't have the competitive brain to keep multi-hit moves in your back pocket, caves ended up being _so_ tedious to traverse.

I watch smallAnt enough to know anything he does is possible, outside when he did Zelda BOTW without a single jump just to realise he has to jump fighting final form of Ganon. Also people did lets plays of Pokemon with level 1 only or no experience point gain, im sure this challenge is less demanding than some other challenges he made in the past. The catching Pokemon is afterall limitless, so lots of luck, and plenty of good catches will make it possible at one point.
