The 400m is probably the freakiest performance I've ever seen. From lane 2, she had broken the stagger on the athlete in lane 8 before the end of the back straight...

She's the only sprinter in history, male or female, who has set WR's at 50m, 60m, 100m, 100yds, 200m, 220yds, 300m, 400m, 4x100m, 4x400m. A lot of people saying "what a shame they used steroids, they were so good anyway". The whole point is that they weren't that good. They just had an insurmountable performance advantage through cheating. All athletes train hard and do the same work across the world steroids or not bu the steroid users simply have unmatchable physical ability from cheating. Steroids in women are unbeatable, a 3-4% performance boost, a level which is simply unattainable for an athlete competing without steroids. Almost 40 years later and current legendary female athletes can't threaten these records despite all the technological, nutritional, sports science and training advancements

Pity that no matter how good they ( GDR athletes ) may have been, how hard they may have trained over so many years because their top athletes were world class and consistent over many years. Pity how supreme their natural talents and styles may have been. Sadly, their performances will always be tainted by the doping scandals of the era. And an even bigger shame to the GDR authorities because most the athletes were unaware of the drugs that were being administered to them, and today, decades later, suffering ill-health side effects. A real shame to the GDR authorities.

Some of their East German Swimming Team mates are still alive, but most of them that did take the Oral Pills and the Shots have had many Health Issues. Their Children have also suffered with their own Health Issues, because the East German coaches gave these shots/pills to their Mothers.

Its amazing what an athlete can do when doped to the eyeballs on anabolic steroids - there is no way she was clean. Marita Koch was part of East Germany's "State Plan 14.25" where they methodically injected massive quantities of steroids into their athletes. East Germany had been a pioneering state in doping, so much that it was considered to be the inventor of doping.
