I've always enjoyed the chemistry between Bernard and Eliot. If it's them doing something together, i'm watching. Yew!

learn to ride both - Flats for jumps, learning to preload, learning wheelies mannies proper bunny hops. - Clipless for DH and general trail, personally feel like you have a second handlebar at the back wheel for more control. I don't buy into there opinion about feet blowing off the pedals with todays pins and rubber and good flow/unweighting technique. I switch between both often. two bolts. easy as.

For me: road, gravel, XC - clips all the way. I started this so many years ago that I even used toestraps and rode clipless for years and I feel comfortable with them. But for trail and AM riding is 100% flats. I think it is the matter on how hard do you ride gnarly stuff and how confident you are. I rarely feel my feet all over the place on rough stuff so maybe I am not so fast but for me flats give the confidence in rapid bail-out if things go wrong.

Flat pedals all day, every day for me. With how good and sticky the shoes are now and some grabby flats like my Tenet Occult's, my feet (when in the correct position) pretty much never pop off even on the most gnarly sections. That said, totally get why people run clipless, it is easier just not having to worry about it and just go. I just personally have never gotten along with clipless in the multiple times I've tested swapping over to them.

sometimes you have to brute force it. Took me several months to get confident but now im really glad i switched.

It comes down to simplicity and fun factor for me. I try clips each year and go right back to flats. If I were a world cup DH racer, I'd clip in, for sure.

I raced both DH and Enduro and feel the same way. I have flats on all my bikes now. You can accidentally unclip and if it happens in a tech section trying to clip back in at speed is a nightmare.

Clips for racing 100%, just the ability to pedal over rough stuff without worrying about your feet moving or not having to re-adjust your footing is a gamechanger. Flats are definitely more fun though.

I've been riding with clips for a couple decades and have never felt the need to go back to flats. Even with a couple rigs with flats, I still prefer to be clipped in in my primary trail bike.

From a clipless turned flats person, I enjoy flats more. They make me ride more dynamically which in turn makes me more in tune with the bike. However, for racing and long chunky sections I can see clips. But even then, proper wedge technique can mitigate feet dancing around.

I physically cannot run clips comfortably due to how my feet naturally stick out to the side (too large for the womb I was)....I'd have to angle my cleats to the max, and run washers to kick my q-factor wider for ankle clearance on the cranks - I abandoned all that in the late 1990's for platforms once and for all. Do my feet pop off - of course, but the comfort is well worth the trade off. And, it's much easier to bail when fooling around with really bad line choices or skinnies.

Hilarious, I remember falling over when clipped in at first, I’m still not confident enough to ride really gnarly stuff clipped in though. I ride flats with high screws on the really gnarly trails and clips on my xc bike, works for me.

No we are changing it to clipped now. Lol I refuse to call them clipless it doesn’t make sense.

Correct, the pedals are clipless but you clip into them. The most annoying cycling term after bottom bracket. You know, bracket, the kind of thing you use to hang a shelf on a wall 🤷♂

Using the clips for bunny hops is _the worst_! Do NOT do it unless it's an emergency and you just need to pull to clear something you accidentally didn't properly hop. If you rely on this, if you get used to it, someday you're going to unclip mid hop and go down _hard_! It doesn't matter if you can do it easier in clips, it's dumb to rely on the clips instead of learning how to properly hop (which Bernard can obviously do. So strange...) in multiple situations.
