When Wang Hao started to learn TT as a child, his father was the first teacher. Wang's father told Wang to use RPB instead of traditional blocking. After being selected for the national team, Wang Hao's coach further upgraded his RPB. Wang Hao , the god of RPB (Reverse Penhold Backhand)! Made in China !

Looks like the analysts on the Chinese team came up with good advice. Wang Hao really exploited Timo's weakness by forcing him to block on his BH so much. It's good to see Wang Hao back in top form too! Timo has to switch his grip every time he transitions between FH to BH or vice versa, which forces him to be much more passive in his blocking and limits his control over the rallies. That said, it takes a player of Wang Hao's caliber to exploit this weakness effectively.

Wang Hao here shows the importance of training. No doubt back at the team house, there are at least 2-3 lesser players who train everyday to imitate Boll's every move, so that Wang can get as much practice against Boll's tricks and steps as he needs. On the other hand, Boll is 'alone' as far as that goes, and his coach Rosskopf has not fared well against Wang in the past either.

Wang Hao must be a pretty frustrating player to play against as he doesn't really have any real weakness despite using penhold grip. That reverse backhand is absolutely lethal and in this match he was clearly on fire.

Problem here was Timo not trusting his BH enough. Therefore, he always turned to pivot resulting in not only time loss, but also a loss in pressure against Wang. Wang exploited this marvelously, winning like half of his points with this tactic. In the end, the high pressure game from Wang was just too much to handle for Timo. Often, it was almost painful to watch the difference in level between the two.

@IngopienGer Timo's BH focuses more on spin than speed. It's the most consistent of all top players, but you are right that he seldom uses it to finish points like, say, Ma Long, Wang Hao, or Kreanga.

Like most European players, Timo's forehand is problematic, not strong enough. Often, Wang Hao just used his forehand to oppress Timo's backhand. Timo lost many points in this circumstance.

@wasdwasdedsf Wow, you waited over 3 months to reply to this? If you mean Ma Long's loss to Chan Kazuhiro (one of his 3 losses in 2010, him, Timo Boll, and Wang Liqin) he was injured and also Chan is Chinese who moved to Japan to play. And Chan is #53 in the world, so easily top 100. Timo Boll lost 11 matches in 2010 and Ma Long lost 3, yet Timo Boll takes over the #1 spot even though he went 2 wins 7 losses against the Chinese in 2010.

@SlimRickyable
@SlimRickyable 10 жыл бұрын
Seit Jahren? :)
@mrkazuya5467

@SlimRickyable
@SlimRickyable 10 жыл бұрын

Seems like Adam has always been a Boll fanboi.Boll could never keep up with the Chinese but every one acts surprised when he loses.Yeah he beat Ma Lin,Wang Hao and Wang Liquin back to back in 2005 World Cup but the Word Cup was played exactly the day after their Internal tournament was finished and they were extremely fatigued.The World Cup itself lasts 2 days and carries little significance to the Chinese.
@AdamBobrow
@AdamBobrow 3 жыл бұрын
@@TTTTCJGKS Yeah. This is fascinating for me. 4 years before I started commentating on matches... I probably wouldn't write a comment like the one I wrote above, since I started working with ITTF. I think Wang Hao IS one of the best of all time and he has the best RPB of any player I've ever seen. I think he spent 27 months at world #1...(just off of memory... sorry if I am wrong), but yeah... I think he is also the only player with more than 3 matches against Ma Long to have a winning record (according to the ITTF H2H records). I am definitely a fan of Wang Hao. 8>). PS- His son is quite a golfer too. 8>)
@AdamBobrow
@AdamBobrow 3 жыл бұрын
@@dickn.ormous1064 I am definitely a fan of Timo... partially for his incredible humility and sportsmanship (he's incredibly kind and to everyone) and the fact that he has been one of the greatest threats to the Chinese for the past 2 decades. That being said... I agree with you that for the top Chinese players, the records are in their favor and the head-to-head stats show that. I guess it's always been impressive to me that when Timo has played some incredible matches and created some big opportunities to pull off big wins and upsets, that Fan Zhendong or Ma Long have still been able to come back in the end. While he is 4 and 16 against Ma Long, I think he is one of only two players outside of the Chinese National Team to beat Ma Long more than twice in ITTF events (only second to Vladi... who has a 5 and 8 record against Ma Long). I am a fan of many of the players, aware of the stats more or less and am often excited to see the underdogs raise their level to occasionally challenge the Chinese stars who have clearly raised the bar over the last several decades. 8>)
