The book the American (Mike Evans) had is the same book that was given to Ye Wenjie a year prior by the guy who betrayed her. She repeated a line from the book to Mike Evans to show him that she read it and was also influenced by it. The book is also a real book and it was hugely influential on the environmental movement.

Netflix version is awful, shallow and butchering the characters especially ye wenjie. Dislike the Oxford 5 with their boring romances and relationships. Tencent 2023 version is so much better, the main actors/actresses superb in their portrayals.

False. Tencent scrubbed everything from the cultural revolution. Character motivations aren't clear without that part. Also, who wanta their favorite story CENSORED?!
