By far the most distinct Legion from what they'll become in 40K. I honestly can't decide if the blue and white makes them *more* intimidating and gritty. Men like Kharn are who they are. But there's such an interesting gap in models. The 40K red is beast...the 30K Kharn the Bloody..much more unsettling. I picture him facing Ultramarines, this sea of blue being literally burst as the blood flows and it hits the fan how they literally *paint* who they are as they fight.

The white and blue scheme is a lot better. The white does a better job of portraying the bloody melee which the World Eaters love so much. Think about it, the the white gets covered with splattered blood, whereas the red hides all of that. White clad Marines whos armor is splattered with blood.

Both the War Hounds and the World Eaters schemes are sexy as hell. There's a reason why so many people paint them. I actually don't mind the mid-tone they have halfway through the heresy where the blue features are red but they still have mostly white armour.

I like the blue and white, i know khorne ain't suttle, but it adds a less in your face grit, the white being stained with blood and the dirt showing up better makes them grittier The normal red just makes them look like muahahha we're eeeevviiiilll

I think the Blue and White scheme is very visually appealing, it's actually really growing on me as I look at schemes considering who might be my second Legion - since lore and aesthetics wise in 30 and 40K The Dark Angels win out overall for me.

Anvil Industry have 6 resin chain axes for £3.50, and is a pretty decent alternative. They are UK based however.

An interesting thing about the Rampager squad is that they have Scout as well as being allowed Land Raiders as dedicated transports. This gives the option of outflanking tanks or just a straight up 12" scout move in order to get into cc faster.

Can be quite strong but you pay through the teeth for it. That unit just cops ALL the firepower and goes up in smoke turn one generally.

I plan on using a heap of rampagers mixed with MK II despoilers to make up inductii squads, mainly for the bare heads with butchers nails

Red Butchers actually get 5 attacks on the charge; 2 base +1 on an organized charge +1 on any charge from legion trait, and +1 from two weapons. If you build them with lightning claws that goes up to 6 thanks to specialist weapon

For what it's worth: the Chaplain in the Space Marine Heroes box can be bought solo in the Deathwatch Chaplain box. It's the same Chap, just with a Deathwatch upgrade sprue instead of the two extra characters.

I still make mistakes however I do have to do these on-the-go where I write down only basic notes, generally just the legion bonuses. I typically spend 2 hours on an episode, about 20-mins or so recording it and the rest of the time is editing, applying overlays where I need to etc.

Very cool analysis of perhaps one of the hardest legions to be successful with in 30K. You need the heavy transports to make a go of this because Rhinos are just too flimsy for front line duty in 30K given all the weapons that can toast them. You also require counters for Breachers and variants thereof as these nullify many of your legion bonuses that are linked to bonus attacks on the charge and Gravition weapons that can mess with your charges no end. I still think the World Eaters need revisiting in the Legiones Astartes rules department as they have been left behind in battlefield capability, even the legions featured in Book Two: Massacre. I imagine the Blood Angels are going to make them look distinctly weak when Book Eight is released.

leakycheese I've been trying to come up with an answer to breachers (in this particular case Immortals that I got for my son). I figure one of two ways, either hit them with two squads, second one gets all their charge bonuses, or preferably, smash a squad of inductii into them then turn up the nails

I think the key really is assaulting from vehicles, where the only reaction the enemy gets is overwatch right before the rape train punishes them. I am not a big fan of World Eaters in rhinos, they need to wait around for a turn after hopping out which sucks, but for those getting into the game, if they want to get in cheaper it's the way to go.

The problem with Breachers is that even though they're a bit tougher for the World Eaters to deal with, their damage output is so low that all you need to do is kill a couple and you'll have a chance of breaking them. Sure, you won't smash them in the same way that you'd smash a Tactical Squad, but you've still got a pretty good chance to beat them in combat, especially if you have a character in your unit. Even if you don't break them on the charge you'll probably break them in their turn which is even better because you'll be able to move and assault again in your next turn. And how many people take Breachers outside of ZM? Can't be that many...

Thousand Sons breachers and Imperial Fists with stone gauntlet are seen outside ZM because they are both really strong, especially with attached medics.In the Sons case, they have 5++ invuls out of combat and 4++ in it, and the Imperial Fists are toughness 5!

kizzdougs I regularly field a ten strong unit of Medusan Immortals as an anvil unit for breaking hard hitting infantry assaults from the likes of World Eaters. They are all armed with Volkite Chargers and have a pair of Graviton Guns... they are a tough unit to approach let alone charge. Sometimes I'll attach a centurion or praetor as well if the opponent has a particularly nasty melee character tacked onto their premiere assault unit. Given I normally play head of the gorgon, my dudes will be holding the centre and have stubborn. Last time out they creamed a 20-strong WE tactical squad that attacked them. Khârn was leading the attack and he called out my Praetor who shrugged off his attacks with his 3++ and then insta-gibbed him back with his powerfist.

Veteran World Eaters Player here, they're honestly one of the best legions out there. : Exhortions of Butchery is on *any* apothecary, even without Gahlan Surlak. He gives all your men with Apothecary an extra attack though 1/6 die afterwards. It is god tier. Take it. Also with Gahlan Surlak ALL OF YOUR TACTICALS GO TO STR 6 WITH CHAINAXE. IT CAN NOT BE OVERSTATED HOW GLORIOUS THIS IS Rampagers are terrible, just fucking awful, the worst. Melee vets or just tacticals do everything they do better. Do not take them. Also they can be Fast Attack. It does not matter as you shouldn't take them there either. Red Butchers do not always hit on a 3+, just are always hit on a 3+. They are fun, not an autotake, but okay. Really good in ZM. Also Spartans/Non-Proteus Land Raiders > every other transport. You want Assault Vehicle. Always. Your army is designed to get into Chainaxe not vehicle.

You can grab the Chaplain outside the heroes box now as a "deathwatch" chaplain. The Blood Angels Chaplain has a mark 4 jump pack. the armour is a bit mark 7 but it's also artificer.

I just like the idea of these murder happy berserk being the good guys and having a calming blue and white color scheme. if I were to run these guys I would play them on the "good guys" side just to drive the juxtaposition home.

I run 45-60 footslogging marines w/apothecaries backed up by a contemptor mortis, cortus, 10 man plasma squad in rhino, vindicator and scorpius whirlwind. Having the variety of small armour with high damage output takes alot of the heat off the marines and i do fairly well with my run charges. I find i dont need the heavy transports on a 6x4 gaming table. The only hard counter would be typhons, vindicators and other low ap blasst templates.

By "small armour", you mean nothing bigger than a Contemptor/Sicaran right? I also want to make a force of 60 footslogging marines. (Word bearers, 3 units of 20 with dark channeling, 2 apothecaries and 1 chaplain), so the amount of support needed to destroy vindicators/medusas is something that interests me.

You can grab some chain axes and some good plastic bits from the GW Berzerkers kit. It comes with 6 plastic chain axes and six plastic chain swords. There are also a number of heads and legs that can be used if you are willing to use the hobby blade to remove khorne symbols. I find FW weapons brittle and prefer the plastic.

Calth/Prospero plastics still exist, and you can still pick them up for an ok price online from 3rd parties. As for a rules update, Malevolence is coming within the next few months, which will bring a lot to the table with Daemons, Blood Angels and White Scars.
