For the "Power Weapon" part at around 18 Minutes. While clarification on their end would be better than not, i think gw made it clear what they mean by "Power Weapon". Many Datasheets like Praetors, Tac-Sergeants or Terminators refer to the basic ones as just "Power Weapons" in the same way. In addition they clarified in the half assed FAQ, that by Mastercrafting a Chaplains Power Weapon, they meant the basic ones.

While I definitely agree that is what they mean, it is pretty hilarious that the only list of what power weapons are, is a list that includes Gravis Power Fists. RAW, you absolutely can take Thunder Hammers, GPFs and Lightning Claws, because that's how crap the writing is. Like, the Chaplain clarification does nothing for me. If GW saw they made a mistake with power weapons and only clarified the wording for the Chaplain, without fixing the issue in the rest of the game, it makes the Chaplain ruling an exception, not the standard.

I don't see what the issue is here. Page 137 of the Astartes book very clearly states the difference between what is a generic power weapon, and not being able to take power fists as under power weapons option. Mabye i dont get it because I'm not a cheat.

Ofanim Court have 3 attacks and a 6+ Invulnerable Save. They are locked into taking a sword with +2 strength AP3 Rending and Murgerous Strike, so they lack Brutal (2). Also their option to be taken without a Jump Pack means you can join them to Raldoran and get their WS bumped up to 6. If you want inferno pistols in a unit with Jump Packs, an Assault Squad may be a better choice. 20 man squad, 2x on the Sergeant plus 4 other guys with inferno add a techmarine with cognis signum to boost Balistic Skill.

I might have the Burning Onces rule wrong but wouldn't they get 2 attacks if Sanguinius is dead? The rule says +1 attack if he has 4 or less wounds and an additional +1 if he is removed.

First thought I had reading their rules: Dawnbreakers do everything they do, but better... Max DB squad with swords AND a power first/jump pack Herald cost 20 points more than a maxxed SG squad with a banner... I have no reason to take SG, especially when I don't run Sanguinius or named characters.

the biggest problem blood angels have is they have a lot of units that are great at killing 3+ armour but not good at killing 2+. Also all their elite units cost a bomb in points compared to the equivilent of other legiones. If im running these guys it will be with bird boi as wound soakers, all they'll get is the paragon blades. no point shooting the inferno guns cause a) you've got to get within 6", b) most people will return fire react, and c) then you eat overwatch when you charge. 10 man (with banner for line), 2 paragon blades, mix of perdition spears and axes and bolt pistols. 445pts Also with Bird Boy getting killed you'll get upto +2 attacks on top of your charge bonus so you will get 5 attacks each in the unit when he dies. Not terrible but the unit is best at mulching 3+ armour still

I've slowly been hoarding Blood Angel bits from the Death Company and Sanguinary Guard solely to use on other Blood Angel units. Buying the kits has just ended up being cheaper than buying the bits I've needed from but sellers.

In retrospect, it should have been telling that the utter lack of 40K SG bits used in this article likely had something to do with the new SG guard kit (and how utterly horrendous it turned out to be). I don’t think it entirely redeems the SG profile, but it should be noted the Dawnbreakers’ Set the Sky Aflame ability doesn’t work if anything’s attached to them. I wish Aster Crohne’s Virtue of Judgement rule wasn’t confined to Bitter Duty units. Giving a unit of SG Shred on their Perdition weapons simply because they’re considered ‘Flame’ weapons would be hilarious.

The guy that made the conversion, from CultofPaint, said that GW said they had to be based on the MKVI assault squad kit. Doesnt leave much room for conversion

26:54 Support Squads may not be take as Compulsory choices so all that's doing is stopping you use this as a Compulsory HQ.

I think there is two reason for the usage of mk6 assault squad is the Rift between the design studio 40k/AoS vs 30k/OW, and the second is the rumour of Primaris Sang guard and the old kit being retired this year.

yep rumour is Sang guard are getting the primaris scale creep treatment so the new kit can't be used for 30k without looking out of place. When i heard that I brought a couple of boxes of the current kit to use in my 30k army. Was going to run them as a fancy looking command squad but I guess they have official rules now!

For the EC spears, only 3 are for tactical marines, the other 2 are for terminators so while only minor, the hands are slightly bigger, as are the spears. Personally the BA weapons themselves are my favs but yes they are expensive.

Blood Angels already had a special comand squad in the Ofanim Court. Who have 3 Attacks base and a perdition sword light in the Blade of Judgement.

The painted models look well painted and cool, bit it looks like the Blood Angels ordered their new sets of armor off Temu, compared to the old ones. Its sad that they took an iconic unit which is known for its ornate baroque armor and said "Hey, if we put some new, not particularly BA themed heads on MK 6 assault squad, and rattle can them gold, that's basically the same thing eh?" Then they over-costed them by a bunch, and did low effort conversions because they just want folks to buy more MK 6 assault troops. They die too easily for how they costed them.

I thought those Sanguard were rather depressing. Then I figured maybe they're a unit created during wartime, so they've just had to spiff up some basic equipment from the armory. But I think I might be giving them too much leeway here. My initial opinion is probably right.

I actually like the less fancy design shown in the WarCom article. It fits the heresy better imo than those full on draped-in-cloth and accessoires 40k alternatives. And while I do think that for a unit that is pretty much "Jump Pack Chosen with Perdition weapons" they are a bit overcosted - I dont mind it that much personally. Those special units shouldnt be just superior to generic ones otherwise they tend to overshadow creativity if that makes sense. Like, "My" Chosen for example are the best blokes "My" Army has. They have not necessarily trained less or are weaker than any unit with a book and a name to them.

I think the upshot of this is because the 40k Sanguinary Guard kit is almost certainly about to go the way of the dodo in a couple of months when the 40k Blood Angels codex/refresh is due to drop, at least those of us who have a ton of them can straight up drop em into 30k now. I'm just ignoring the lore-blind interpretation in the article - they don't look bad or anything but we know it's purely a marketing thing for various recent 30k kits. I'm just glad they're in the game now.

I think they are in a pretty good spot for a no-invul save unit which kills power armour only, very glass cannon compared to the elite terminators most other legions rock for killing bulk infantry.

If you compare them to a jump pack command squad they should be 30/35 points per model. I play night lords and a night raptor with chains word is the same points as a dawn breaker.

For me they are a fail. Without an inv save they are pretty poor at defending Sanguinius ( their sole reason for existing) and with no access to a power fist ( despite one being in the sg box and both new mk boxes) they can't deal with other bodyguard type units that will have w2 and 2+/ 4 lr 5++. And extra attacks when the hawkboy dies ?. Why not DA companion rule so they can actually try to stop him dying. They feel like a command squad with access to perdition weapons rather than elite bodyguards. We have Dawnbreakers, command squad and ofanim court. These.. sanguinary Guard do nothing different and imo are worse due to cost. A squad of 10 with banner and melta bombs ( so dreads domt ruin them ) is about 465. With no inv save and no s8.

Around 20:30, the rule is supposed to say that SG get +1 attack when Sanguinius is below 4 wounds and +2 attacks when he is dead. Of course, a moron wrote the rule, so It's not clear at all.

I think the unit in general is garbage… They wouldn’t even be able to stand up to anyone’s elite units. Perdition weapons are crap. Why not give them some kind of power weapon called an Encarmine blade like in 40K with a str bonus and some kind of rend. Also why only a base of 2 attacks on their weapon profile? Most of the elite versions of units in other legions have 2 base as well, but they also have weapons that let them get the bonus attack bringing them up to 3. Or if you look at the Smurfs axe and shield guys they just get a base 3 attacks because they can’t get bonus ones for their shields. Not one of our elite melee units have these options and it seems pretty dumb since they are supposed to be a close combat themed legion… GW needs to upgrade their writers for their rules cause this is just dumb.
