As a Blackburn fan darwen are also close to my heart a lot of rovers fans support them as a non league club, they are a brilliant little club looking to go places, the ground is getting a lot of investment and hoping to see them out of the north west counties for the first time into the northern leagues, not been able to get down in a few years since they avoided relegation from the north west counties premier (9th tier) I think in 2017 I think it was now

The original ground was Barley bank, there is a street there now and is next to the Alexandra pub which was then a grand house. The team used it to change in. The old ground went from Barley bank street all the way to Avondale primary school. The terrain is still pan flat in a town dominated with hills. Great video though.

There was a fair number of Partick players went on to play for Darwen and other Lancashire clubs at that time. Fergus' wee bother played for them too. The real story of Jimmy Love is a tragic one. He'd set up a street cleaning company at the age of 18 but it failed, he was set to face bankruptcy in 1878 but failed to show at court. An arrest warrant was then issued against him and this was when he ran away to Darwen where he played successfully for 2 years. It then appears his past was catching up with him, so in 1880 he joined the Royal Marines. By 1882 he was sent into action in Egypt where British soldiers had been deployed to put down a National uprising, taking back Alexandria from the occupiers. He fell ill with enteric fever and died in Ismailia aged only 24.

Back then the Scottish had a passing game with tactics similar to today's game where in England the game almost unrecognizable as the English teams all didn't pass and each player would just rush with the ball as fast as they could or just punt it upfield, similar to what young kids would do all bunched up. Football is a Scottish game as is tennis, golf and rugby ( which should be called 'Royal High') as Ellis took the game from Royal high school in Edinburgh before going to Rugby to study. Facts

A great video. Their facilities look immense. As you say wherever you go and find out about the origins of football you will trace it back to Glasgow. Without Fergie, what would football be like? And that's before you even get onto his namesake a century later :-) Both from Glasgow. Both from the World Capital of Football. And of course there are both #ScotchProfessors.... Looking forward to the Euros - England v Scotland. Can't blooming wait. GB

Talking about films, have you ever watched The World Cup, A Captains Tale,? stars Denis Waterman , it depicts the story of West Auckland FC, a team of part time players who represented England in the Sir Thomas Lipton Trophy, some times described as the first world cup. in 1909 ,1911. they beat Juventus in the final.

Made famous by the film The World Cup: A Captain's Tale starring Denis Waterman ("Minder"), Nigel Hawthorne ("Yes Minister") & Tim Healey ("Auf Wiedersehen Pet"). They won the trophy twice & got to keep it permanently where is is taking pride of place in the club's trophy cabinet.

Alan Shields Hamilton South Lanarkshire Scotland. The Darwen story is one well worth telling be it though your Channel Sam or via Netflix The English game I would agree it should of been could the people's game. & not the English game as that mame name ignores the contribution other parts of The U.K & indeed players from The Republic of Ireland have made to the game & in particular The early Scots that contributed to the game at tat time. The English style was more of a style we would associate with Rugby Union of today rather than Association football thar we know today but in Scotland football was more like the game we know as Association football of today. Basically The Public Schools took up Rugby Union & The Working class Association Football. Sutter did not play for the club we knew as Partick Thistle today but a now defunct club simply could Patrick F.C that's my understanding from my own research I did after watch The English game. This is one of the best vlogs you have ever made on the Channel Sam can we please , please , please have more football contact like you have made here with Darwen & also The History of Queens Park , Cathkin Park & Saint Bernards if we could have more content like that it would be most greatly appreciated. Darwin , Queens Park & clubs like them are what football great & not European Super League's how have we managed to get from Sheffield F.C to a European Super League something is drastically wrong with our game if this is what it has come to. I say Sheffield F.C as they are recognised as the very first football full stop Sam. You personally Sam are a top man.
