I've never been here, but I've been by here a few times in an 18-wheeler! This landmark is a railfans dream! This is the ultimate location to watch the same train for several minutes, turning every angle under the sun! I envy you guys that live near here!

I was born and raised in Tehachapi, CA and visited the loop many times. They use to have a Best Western Mountain Inn coffee shop and they had in the back, an HO scale model of the Tehachapi Loop. As a kid, I loved to put a quarter in and watch the train.

The Tehachapi Loop is a 0.73 miles (1.17 km) long spiral, or helix, on the Union Pacific Railroad Mojave Subdivision through Tehachapi Pass, of the Tehachapi Mountains in Kern County, south-central California. The line connects Bakersfield and the San Joaquin Valley to Mojave in the Mojave Desert. Rising at a steady two percent grade, the track gains 77 feet (23 m) in elevation in the Loop.[1] Any train more than 4,000 feet (1,200 m) long passes over itself going around the loop. At the bottom of the loop, the track passes through Tunnel 9, the ninth tunnel built as the railroad worked from Bakersfield. The line averages approximately 40 trains each day.[citation needed] Due to its frequent trains and scenic setting, the Tehachapi Loop is popular with railfans.[citation needed] In 1998 it was named a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark and is designated as California Historical

No railroad in the history of the world has EVER had "extra" money. Loops like this were built to SAVE money and avoid building very expensive tunnels. That isn't a tunnel in the video, it's just an over-crossing.

@colormedubious4747
@colormedubious4747 4 жыл бұрын
@@dhirendrasingh1792 If this were a straight run through the pass they might need 6-10 locos to make it work. Your idea is ridiculously wasteful and I guaran-damn-tee you that the engineers painstakingly plotted the path of least resistance for the route (there are only 6 of these VERY EXTREME solutions/loops in existence so, wherever you see one, it was NECESSARY in order to avoid bankrupting the company via building insanely long tunnels). Another factor you are overlooking is that a LOT of different things have to fit within the confined space of this pass: Railroad, freeway, access roads, power lines, and the California Aqueduct.
