Because humans are competitive by nature, so anything requiring skill will turn into a competition at some point.

But...one can compete with him /herself on a Path...for understanding and feeling more abaout nature and about ...a better angler or a better human can be more than one who catches more fishes...

I just don't understand why people have to make fly fishing a competitive sport.
