Competitive fly fishing has been around for decades in Europe and that is not where it has gone. It is here in the US and there is no prize money, just competition and a love of the sport. Sharing, learning nad everyone trying to get better. That is what its about. Don't judge something you have no knowledge of.

Competive Fly Fishing does promote mfg's as does the Bass Masters circuit here in North America. Alot better than promoting intrusive governments! Promote awareness.....

that's not fly fishing, but showing off who's got more muscle power....lol. Fly Fishing is an art and having quadrennial years of experience shows that I can handle a 15lb wild atlantic salmon caught on a single handed 10' hardy and a 7 line forward with a simple leader strength of 8lb. I also dry fly fish and this is a category in itself... all these vests and weighted down gear is not at all necessary.... you need skill and an understanding of rivers and lochs.

No different than any other days fishing, other than people with money and sponsorship, Norway! granted there are not may other more secenic locations, than perhaps Canada and New Zealand then again there is always Conn, Mask and Corrib in the west Ireland. We live in a competitive world...why would the "Contemplative Sport" be part of this? Fishing is where we go to revive and relax. I find these "xtreme" yahoos offensive and crass. The disrespect shown to trout and nature is palpable. These people suck the enjoyment out of the gifts of wilderness. Saying you are the "best" flyfisher is like suggesting you attend church better than others. It's a ridiculous notion prompted by the fishing industrial complex. Don't come wading thru my beat....
