This music makes me think of the people past. The Scandinavians & vikings, the good ones, who just tried surviving the elements of nature. It must have been so tough, losing loved ones every now & then. Death must have been such a close companion.
@sarahgray4306 жыл бұрын
Um...I hate to burst your bubble but the Vikings weren't exactly a race of tree hugging hippies! They were a tough bunch of ruthless capitalists who used their combat skills and business acumen to get rich and spread their genes across Europe and develop into prosperous and cosmopolitan societies from Ireland to Russia and even Sicily. Read an actual history book and sort it out for yourself!

It's so great that I can listen to music from other cultures. I am certain my family comes from North Germany and the Netherlands, Scandinavia on my mother's side. I'm am grateful. I don't know how culturally accurate this music is, because I am not sure if Nordic Vikings, or general Nordic people during the age of Vikings, actually wrote down the music. Even so, the ambient nature sounds, horns, and drums remind me of a place I have only imagined. Yes, I have watched the show Vikings, which had wonderful music, but was a different composer, Einar Selvik, a Norwegian musician. Anyways, Thanks.

And if you plan to have kids you better homeschool them, because the school system sure as hell won't be promoting Danish culture. I respect that you served your country but that doesn't change facts, Europeans in general hate themselves, you probably have more respect for Danish culture than most actual Danes do.

We actually don´t know what music of the Viking Age sounded like. The earliest written down example of original Scandinavian music we have is a small snippet of a tune in Danish called Drömde Mik En Dröm I Natt ( I dreamt a dream last night ) dating from as far as I know sometime in the 12th century which would make it sit firmly in the middle of the Middle Ages. An Arab traveller chronicling a journey to the North in the times of the Vikings once described the singing he heard as: "A loud low guttural growling not unlike big dogs howling,-only worse." Maybe the growling singing style of the modern Viking Metal bands are closer to their ancestry than they know of? :)

@sarahgray4306 жыл бұрын
@Rene Guenon given the notoriously shallow and tepid Swedish gene pool I think the Immigrants should be seen as a blessing!
@sarahgray4306 жыл бұрын
@Rene Guenon not erasure but blending. Culture and population growth have never been static...there have always been people who for various reasons have wanted to leave their place of birth and go somewhere else (the Vikings themselves are a prime example of this and so were the migrants from Northern Europe who came to North America in the late 19th and early 20th century including my husband's family) Countries that are too insular suffer not only cultural and economic stagnation but also genetic stagnation and given that the native Swedish gene pool is not only notoriously limited but has dwindled considerably over the past 50 years or so they need to allow fresh genetic stock to enter from other countries and the people who are most available come from outside Europe. They also provide a work force that will work harder and for less money than people who are used to living more affluently. As such the only other option would be for native born Swedes to work for less money and maybe start having more babies...neither of which they seem to want to do! Americans have the same "problem" with Latin American immigrants but really...if Europeans used Manifest Destiny to excuse their actions two or three hundred years ago then surely other people can do the same?

I am half Celtic. But my oldest known ancestor was Agnes Anderson, who was born in the village of Bothkennar in Sterlingshire, Scotland in 1645. Her ancestors were Norsemen. Proud as fuck of that, but it doesn't make me a fascist. I reckon my ancestors would have spat on the appalling scum that pretend they are Vikings today, (Oh! I have a Norse and Proud Odin tee shirt, so I am better than brown people,) making some sort of political statement that would have been irrelevant to my ancestors. If I thought that was what we were about, I would be ashamed.
