(this part of the Shiur was not recorded) There is a big argument if 'color' is intrinsic or merely extrinsic, part of the essence of an object or not part of the essence of the object. See Morah Nevuchim, 1:73. The Gemarah, Chullin, 136b brings down the argument between the House of Shamai and the House of Hillel " היו לו שני מיני תאנים שחורות ולבנות ... ב"ש אומרים אין תורמין וב"ה אומרים תורמיןThis is the argument if having a different color makes the fig a different type of fig, or merely a different color fig but the same species.
