World of tanks should be out soon, and yeah. The comparisons to x-wing are obvious but important. Starter box, small unit sizes, expandable, upgrades, points cost, dice based conflict resolution. I'm really curious to see if this one becomes a bit of a crossover hit with wargamers and fans of the online game as well. As it really has some potential to do very well.

Woods do not block LOS in this game. They did with TANKS!
@3MBG4 жыл бұрын
Huh, i thought if it went all the way through the woods it blocked. My mistake it thats wrong. Never played Tanks.

@@3MBG "Woods are concealing terrain and provide cover to tanks in them or seen through them" page 12 of the rulebook (Not being snarky here, but I want to be specific as to be helpful). If the woods are involved in the LOS cover is granted to the target. It used to be that if neither the target nor shooter were in the woods it blocked LOS. The hill does block LOS if neither is on the terrain. On page 12 of the rule book there is a diagram of two M4A1 Sherman tanks being in cover on the bottom part right of the picture. The first M4 is filling in the woods and labeled as in cover, the second M4 is on the far side of the woods from the Pz IV and is labeled as in cover.

This change was a favorable one as it seriously opens the amount of space a tank can potentially see and shoot.

Sorry, not sure if I've asked you or not but are you getting Company of Heroes:TBG? In theory, it's about a month away, I am rather excited about the rule book changes they have talked about for simplifying the first play to make it approachable and then having an advanced book for the more common rules once you have the basics...I think more games could take this approach as first impressions are so important nowadays with everyone making snap judgements. You know, 'cause there are so many good games out there, why waste time learning a mediocre one, yeah? At least that seems to be the attitude I come up against.
@3MBG4 жыл бұрын
No, not on the radar for Company of heroes at all. I played the PC games ages ago. though. I think WoT has the advantage of being backed by battlefront, which has been doing WWII wargames since the 90s. (Battlefront do flames of war, and own GF9)
@Exoc3tBOOM4 жыл бұрын
@@3MBG I know. Company of Heroes is by Black Crow. They have scaled the tanks to be the same as FoW too. Their game is hex-based on a map so a little less 'free flow' but a lot of the combat is deterministic in a rock/paper/scissors way. Not just die rolling. I know that isn't for everyone, but I really like the idea. Guess I'll have to maybe remember to update this comment or something once I receive it. Haha. Used to play FoW a little but I've kind of been turned off of games that rely heavily on dice as of late. Subjective as that is.

@@3MBG Yes, so say you have an infantry squad vs another, each squad has 4hp...both in the open will deal 1 dmg to each other. There are upgrades for squads to increase the dmg they do, and you can be in cover to reduce that. Things like MGs have pinning where if you move you will take dmg, but you can hunker down and hide and that unit is 'fine' but can't do anything until the MG is removed/moves. Also, another point I forgot to mention is that all damage is dealt simultaneously - initiative plays no part. Two units firing at each other will just fire at one another...there is no reduction because one side 'shot' first. This seems to really emphasise positioning and unit choice when buying new units (just like the video game). Another interesting idea that seems to work well from the videos is a 'real-time' mode, where all players actually move their units all at the same time within a time limit (sand timer).

I have a fishing tackle box full of X-wing 1st edition stuff. I would gladly trade that out for a tank version. That being said, I also own 10 customized hot wheels with the intent of playing Gaslands. and all of these are just collecting dust. maybe I need another vehicular wargame just to round everything out! 3rd time's the charm, right?
@Trueflights4 жыл бұрын
Gaslands is an amazing game. Why aren't you playing it? I own all of those games, and by far Gaslands is the most fun one of them. Tanks is ok for a quick skirmish game, but lacks the variety that Gaslands offers

Trueflight Silverwing the main reason is Covid. My game group only gets to meet up every so often now and usually people want to play something they already know and not learn something new. Also, I was working on my cars at my office before lockdown and then my employer made everyone work from home. all my cars are in my desk drawer at work and have been since March.
@Trueflights4 жыл бұрын
@@nerdfatha i figured it was something like that. I lucked it in that my 19 year old son lived the game as much as I do, so I always have someone to play with at home. That sucks about leaving the cards at with though too. I guess it's a good opportunity to work on some new ones though. I picked myself up a 3d printer during the and have been using it to make scenery and cat parts, weapons, armor, etc. It's kept me busy at least. That said, I do enjoy "tanks". The WoT version is very minimally different, so I'm sure I will enjoy that too. A nice beer and pretzels kind of thing. It just seems like more of an occasional game that you play here or there instead of a full on hobby like Gaslands can be. At least for me.
