Hey! Thought to make a succinct video establishing some of the themes and general world rules in my setting. It runs on logic slightly different to earth’s, which the creatures have adapted to. Imaginative Realism in action!

Excellent video. Man's place in nature is perhaps our most primordial philosophical question. By no means a unique central theme, but that's why it resonates so deeply (it's something I love to explore in my own world-building too). What I think you do so well, however, is that in taking that archetypal story of man vs nature and flipping it on its head, you've made everything revolve around that central conflict, including the world itself. Each aspect of the setting converges upon that single point. It's a great demonstration of well executed world-building, so hats off to you Sawyer haha Would be very interested in more videos about the world at large - in particular, I'd love to see overviews of each biogeographic region. The habitats they provide, the ecosystems they support and the fauna that live within. While there's a lot to be gleaned from each individual dragon video, I think it would be helpful to zoom out and give a broader view, to better demonstrate the connections between them. Cheers

One hell of a way to introduce the history of this world, and I love how in contrast to many settings it civilisation that’s on the back foot to the relentless force of nature. I’m intrigued though about what sort of life existed before the mass extinction, even if we only see it in the form of fossil it would be a fascinating subject to explore.

I thought of a fan hypothesis for Dragon Flight. hyper-buoyant non-flammable gasses produced within each cell. Thus they can use buoyancy to offset the heavy gravity, and not be flammable to their own flames, all without the vulnerability of being a living gas-bag.
@fishyfishyfishy500akabs8
@fishyfishyfishy500akabs8 4 күн бұрын
The thing is those types of gasses are usually noble gasses like helium, which tend to not be produceable by biological processes we know of. You also need a large amount of “balloon” to creature ratio if you want it to be significant, which would necessitate the whole creature to be a lot lighter, and we end up having the same problem again.

The Peppermen. Seeing as they possess a form of gunpowder, metal casting, and a really big threat, would it not be reasonable to assume cannons would be invented, used, sold, and spread amongst the humans given enough time? I mean, driving a dragon away is great and all, but punching a hole through it is better...
@Stooltoad5017
@Stooltoad5017 4 күн бұрын
Punching a hole through it might not as good as one would think. Trying to aim even a small cannon at a fast moving dragon would be rather hard at the technological level they are at. Why go through the effort of trying to kill a dragon when you could send it running to the hills with a pepper gun?
@fishyfishyfishy500akabs8

I believe it has been mentioned before that there are cannons. Though said cannons are limited in terms of effectiveness.
@sawyerleeart
@sawyerleeart 4 күн бұрын
Cannons exist for when a dragon is landed and right on the city, ballista are more effective against fliers. The reason they prioritize driving it away is so that it learns not to return, rather than the city needing to fight a new dragon each time the prior’s territory is newly vacant
@ibccreamsoda3811
@ibccreamsoda3811 Күн бұрын
@@sawyerleeart Okay, that's reasonable. However, would it not be advantageous for the humans, especially the Targoers, seeing as they are on an island continent, to actively hunt down/exterminate the dragon population to increase their chances of survival? I am genuinely curious.

I wanted to go on a date with my imaginary girlfriend, but when you drop a video it is a must for me to drop everything and watch! Okay, now besides the jokes: This overview was pretty much needed with such a big world like yours and i think that it can help build an understanding for the bigger picture of everything... And like said before, i really love this concept of yours of a world in which humanity is not on the top. Many fantasyworlds have big monsters and all of that, but humanity oder humanlike races are ALWAYS pretty much on the top, despite everything around them being so overpowered. In settings with some ultrapowerfull mages i can understand it partly, but even then: What is with the lifes of the common, normal people? Most of the time it is like in our world even with big napalm-lizards flying around. And because of this creative way to handle civillisation in the face of such animals i am impressed with your setting (besides, you know, all the other creative aspects). A question that came me to mind: Why is humanity now on the decline?
@sawyerleeart
@sawyerleeart 5 күн бұрын
I agree! Humans are experiencing a slight decline due to relative isolation and the general hostility of the world taking more lives than not. I see it analogous to life in the Neolithic

I just finished watching the Scarlet lasher and wailing bishop video as well... i see why your remaking em. The audio is quite poor. I must ask again though (bcs im an idiot) somr questions.. So, can scarlet lashers fly (im pretty sure they can). Can they breathe fire? And how fast can their tails whip? Cause like, it must be insanely fast for it to cut through meat. And the wailing bishop... ik it can fly, but, i dont think it can dly to high up into the sly right? Seems too big for it? Which he also wouldnt need since he tende to stay close to the ground... Great vid again man, keep it up. And sorry im too stupid to hear all details

Actually, your dragons could POSSIBLY fly since your planet is much bigger than earth, allowing them to fly since the atmosphere is denser and would support their weight so it works out in the end!

a large planet would not cause life to be small. gravity is not actually that big of a factor on size.
