BFA was an all around solid expansion til 8.2 I'd say. The War Campaign Finale was also great in 8.2.5 but a bit rushed I'd say. Bfa would've been more consistent overall if they didn't just shoehorn N'zoth in one week after 8.3 release and have him blow up to a laser beam (unless the whole thing was an illusion - yet to be shown). But overall I enjoyed the storylines, incredible amount of effort into producing the new CGI & ingame cinematics, along with all the questlines you could accompany solo with important NPCs personally.

I didn't love BFA's story by any means. But looking back at it, the expansion as a whole was a good effort. They certainly tried and put a lot of effort into the presentation of the story. The same can't be said about Shadowlands. I caught onto it in 9.0 and 9.1 Barely any cutscenes, and notable moments. And the cutscenes that were always there were very low key moments with people just talking, not a lot of excitement and action. Like half of them were just Anduin and Sylvanas talking in a torture chamber..... It was soul crushing to see

I remember when they first announced BFA would launch with a battle for Lordaeron. So much hype and potential to see the true seat of the Alliance return, and probably lead to the redemption of the other fallen kingdoms. Sad to see it resort to nothing more than a plagued wasteland. Even worse than the Scourge left it.

@UCJ5TZb_uL4OWiHr-9mtVJ9A Your argument makes no sense. Just because there was a human tribe that was op in killing trolls, doesn't mean they are better than the elves. They took the troll's lands too. High elven priests and magi *were* helping Arthas and it's not like they could have saved Loarderon. If Loarderon belongs to the Alliance, then so does Quel'thalas belong to the elves. Stromgarde or not , the entirety of Azeroth belonged to trolls and elves at some point.

I'll voice my intense appreciation as someone who quit WoW awhile ago and wants to see where things went, knowing how spread out and chronologically confused this stuff was in WoW, it must've been a nightmare to get footage and edit. That said, I'm glad to be entirely validated in thinking the writing was going off a cliff during cata. Sylvanas wins, then goes full danaerys to spite a random dying night elf. Sylvanas wins, then loudly insults her own forces and flies away. Sylvanas is a master at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Also, why on earth didn't she open with the plague when defending the undercity? Why was... literally anyone on the ground in front of the city walls fighting? I'm getting GoT season 8 "lets put the catapults in the front lines, our defenders outside the defenses" vibes here... I remember my undead main gallivanting around azeroth, helping sylvanas' apothecaries research every remotely poisonous thing in the world just so she could have a metaphorical big stick to keep anyone from screwing with the forsaken. I absolutely loved being part of this intensely cautious, scheming, secret 3rd faction with no real stake in the alliance/horde conflict, explicitly using the horde as a convenient shield while we did our own thing in the background. Any of you kids remember that the forsaken started at neutral rep with the rest of the horde races, unlike any other race in the game, specifically to reflect how distant they were from their own "allies"? (I guess classic is a thing, and if that isn't the closest a soulless media corp has ever gotten to admitting they f'd up their own product, i don't know what is) Obviously, the leader of the faction least interested in factional warfare is the perfect candidate to lead the horde in the factional warfare xpac. Obviously people didn't get enough of the "guess I'm fantasy hitler now" character assassination with garrosh, so we gotta do that again. Obviously it was all a ploy to open the shadowlands for... reasons that totally justify history's biggest night elf BBQ. What are those reasons? uhh... yes. Also they knew they couldn't get away with just seige of orgimmar again for a final patch raid, so, uhh... old gods again. This one isn't just a big eye with tentacles, it's a big eye... with tentacles.. and, uhh... OTHER eyes! ...and the worst part is, 9/10ths of this "story" is wholly unneeded. My favorite xpac is burning crusade, and the plot in that is crap... but its not in your face every 20mins with cutscenes and painfully forced drama and cringeworthy dialogue. All this crap is the antithesis of what I enjoyed about the world of, uh, warcraft. I remember every damn zone having its own stories and interesting things going on, it feeling like an actual world. You go to desolace and they don't give a rat's ass about the scourge, they're there to kill centaurs. You go to ashenvale and they don't give a rat's ass about centaurs, they're fighting for lumberyards. You go to plaguelands and they don't give a rat's ass about horde/alliance, they're fighting scourge. Even in burning crusade which is ostensibly about the legion, you can get absolutely lost in the lore of specific zones, of the crazy fungus land, what the OG orcs are dealing with, the history of ogres and gronn in blade's edge, the effects of an unbound magical maelstrom in the netherstorm... everything just seems so much smaller when the whole world is seemingly focused on the same central conflict, even if it were a well-written conflict, which it isn't. I felt 10x times more satisfaction being right there as kil-jaedan was forced back down the sunwell then i did fighting arthas until the "real" fight ended in a cutscene where I've phased out of existence to not clutter up any dramatic shots. I felt 10x more satisfaction beating C'thun, some random eyeball they made up for the MMO, than I did supposedly beating Sargeras, the overarching villian of the whole universe. Sometimes less is more; let the player live their own story without the writer's constant, obnoxious intervention of cutscenes, drama, and telling us what great, powerful, saviors of the universe we are.

Watching this now in 2024, I can't help making the comparison of Anduin before the jailor, with the battle weary, heartsick, traumatised man in the middle of Silithus. Grizzled face, hair hacked short, and the still fresh faced young man with his ideals still in place and his assurance that the Light was with him. The cinematics of this game are beyond comparison with other games. I still play because the story carries on and to be quite honest, I started playing after Iraq, and it kept me sane. Then it kept me sane in 2011 when I was hospitalised for a year with Leukaemia. I have a lot to thank this game for.
