"An Karanir Thanagor", those words always get me. His short cameo in Jaina's blighted lands visions stirred up a lot of emotion for me. The story of Arthas will always be one of my favorites. I remember when WotLK and the Rise of the Lich King novel were announce I overdosed on hype. Loved both of them!!

Would have to be a long series, showing his slow transition from bright and righteous protagonist to tragic villain to do it any justice and in order to escape the trapping of the wider context they would have to separate it into several parts set after various important events of the wider universe (like the fact the Orcs are fucking around). I wouldn’t say it’s impossible, but I believe that perhaps a trilogy based around the base warcraft 3 campaign that ends with the murder of his Father is definitely possible.

lets be honest guys, It is not simple nostalgia that kicking our hearts all this time... Artas was the most interesting, tragic and epic story, of the most humane and heroic guy, with whom we connected in our past, emotionaly WE were Artas, we lived his tragic life with him, all the horrors which happened with him we lived ourselves, all pain and agony he felt. HE is NOT VILLAIN, he did nothing wrong, he HAD BALLS to stand up to the overwhelming evil when noone else would when he was abandoned by Jaina, and Uther, who was the 1st to the light, and where was this FUCKING LIGHT when Artas needed it to battle evil, he was BETRAYED BY light, even manipulated by outrageous universal evil like Jailer, he managed to keep undead at bay, and he kept jaina's stone to the end, because he was not lost completely even under the curse of frostmourne. he is True Hero, as Illidan was and Grommash were (yes they were not Good guys from start, but they Turned and redeemed themselves

Arthas was worthy to be the fantasy version of Vader. Both were young and much was expected of him. both fell in love with a maiden. Both most desperately wanted to protect their people and do whatever they could to do so...even fall to corruption. Both were drastically changed by their final decisions mentally and physically. Both deep down we're good shrouded by evil.

Arthas was better. Vader was compelled by his love for padme more than anything else whereas arthas even denied his love for the sake of his people. Arthas' brainwashing period was also more extreme, where he hung about in northrend all alone being spoken to by nerzhul who was using his mind powers to control him while Vader simply had a chancellor plant a few seeds in his thoughts and his corruption was mostly by his own thoughts and his own will, not another. Arthas went from innocent (with corruptible potential) to corrupt whereas Vader was in it for himself from the very start.

8:08 - And here my favorite part of this tune comes in, although this entire tune did work out. I've been a WoW player (on the Horde side. Lok'tar O'gar), and of all the villains I had to deal with I do think Arthas was the was who worked out best. Maybe because he's the typical "fallen hero" type of villain... He wanted to do good, but forgot the boundaries of ethics in his noble goals only to "fall to the dark side" (to speak in Star Wars terms) eventually becoming the very "evil" he wanted to destroy himself. Being a fantasy writer myself (and one of my first villains also being of that type) I know how difficult it is to make such a villain work out in a credible way, and I guess Arthas did. And the music completely fits him.

Fallen heroes are the best tropes. Funny Arthas and I are similiar, both started as idealists before completely going into the other extreme(I'm barely holding on to some goodness in life). Those who are the most optimistic are the ones who turn to darkness , that is the seed of the fallen hero archetype.
