If you have Scottish ancestry, there is a good chance that you have Scandinavian heritage from there... As the Vikings did travel to Scottland, even settled there.
@NGCS-ej4lz11 ай бұрын
@@bobmalibaliyahmarley1551 Scottish isn't Nordic and they've done DNA test's of the entire country, they're entirely Celtic aka R1-Haplop Group. The Vikings where defeated and they only temporarily settled in the Islands where no one lived, Scots lived Exclusively in the Highlands (never occupied, defeated everyone from Hadrian's 9th and 7th Legions, the Anglo-Saxons thereafter (whish is where they get the Saltire Flag), the Vikings thereafter (which is where the Thistle becomes the national symbol) then the Norman English. However they did take the Islands of Orkney and Shetland from the Vikings and colonised many parts of Scandinavia (Scandinavia is like half Celtic people of this, DNA tests prove, Iceland is Entirely Scottish infact, not a drop of Viking). Also FYI Germanic = Half Celtic/Scandinavian (they're made up of the two groups) and Austria is entirely Celtic, Swiss so on so forth, further north you get in Germany towards Denmark the more Scandinavian.
@matthewgordonpettipas677310 ай бұрын
@@NGCS-ej4lz Do you even know Scottish history at all? Or about DNA? To say Iceland is entirely Scottish is inaccurate. Yes, many Scots and Irish women were taken to Iceland, both as wives and as Thralls (Slaves) but it wasn't settled entirely by Scots lol. The Norse settled Iceland. Clan MacNeil, the Clan I belong to via my maternal grandmother, has Norse DNA. They did a Clan wide DNA study a few years ago, look it up. The Clan has a lot of Norse makeup. And to say no one lived in the western Isles before the Vikings is another error since, uh, have you ever heard of the Norse-Gaels? They were a mixture of Norse and Gaelic cultures which could only have happened if Gaels lived in the Isles before the Norse came. Somerled, the great ancestor of Clan MacDonald and Clan MacDougall, was Norse paternally. We know this because the Chiefs of Clan Donald, the direct descendants of Somerled, have Norse DNA. Frankly you're wrong. Very wrong. Its true to say Scotland isn't Nordic, that's true enough, but to say all Scottish people are one hundred percent Celtic isn't. The lowlanders especially would have Anglo Saxon ancestry (therefore Germanic ancestry) given the Kingdom of Northumbria conquered lands there and settled people there. So yes, people in Scotland DO have 'Viking' DNA, particularly around the Isles. Its inaccurate to say they don't when DNA tests show they do. My own family has it as I've mentioned. The Kingdom of the Isles, which was a vassal State to the Kingdom of Norway from roughly 840s to the 13th century, was inhabited by both Norse and Gaels. Its like you want to make it seem the Norse didn't invade, conquer, and mix with the Scottish people, but it was the other way around, that Scots and Celts conquered them? I've never heard of Scots colonizing parts of Scandinavia, I guess Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland must be keeping that under wraps? Seriously dude, you're way off. Scotland was never a homogenous country, hell even the Highlanders and Lowlanders were different culturally, linguistically, and even religiously for centuries and going back further you had the Picts, Scots of Dalriada, the Britons, the Angles, and yes, the Norse. Even the Romans left DNA behind (go see the DNA study of Dumfries) Also the Swiss and Austrians are a mixture of Germanic, Celtic, and Roman settlers. Many different people settled there over time and mixed together. I know because, again, I'm descended from the Swiss and have done my research on Germanic countries. German speaking Swiss are descended from Germanic Alemanni, Celtic tribes, and Romans, just like their French speaking counterparts. You should go back and research more before posting. You're trying to strip Icelanders and others of their Norse heritage which isn't right, to replace it with some sort of pseudohistorical Celtic ideas which are simply not true.

@@nealjt13 You're welcome! Lyrics of "Voluspa" by Wardruna are directly taken from the Book of Poetic Edda named "Voluspa" - "Prophecy of a Volva" (Wise Woman, Seeress, Witch). The book presents the core of the Nordic Mythology related to the beginnings/creation of the world (or Worlds - parts of the Tree of Yggdrasil, of which Midgaard, or Earth is a part), its development, destruction (Ragnarok) and rebirth. It describes all races/kinds living in the Worlds, encluding Gods, Giants of Fire (Muspel), Giants of Ice (Jotunn), Humans, Elves (Alvar) and Dwarves (besides, Tolkien based names of all Dwarves from "The Hobbit" onto this book; Gandalf also appears there, albeit as a Dwarf).

English translation by Henry Adam Bellows 1. Hearing I ask from the holy races, From Heimdall's sons, both high and low; Thou wilt, Valfather, that well I relate Old tales I remember of men long ago. 3. Of old was the age when Ymir lived; Sea nor cool waves nor sand there were; Earth had not been, nor heaven above, But a yawning gap, and grass nowhere. 57. The sun turns black, earth sinks in the sea, The hot stars down from heaven are whirled; Fierce grows the steam and the life-feeding flame, Till fire leaps high about heaven itself. 45/47. (45.) Brothers shall fight | and fell each other, And sisters' sons | shall kinship stain; (47.) Yggdrasil shakes, | and shiver on high The ancient limbs, | and the giant is loose; 44. Now Garm howls loud | before Gnipahellir, The fetters will burst, | and the wolf run free; Much do I know, | and more can see Of the fate of the gods, | the mighty in fight. 59. Now do I see | the earth anew Rise all green | from the waves again; The cataracts fall, | and the eagle flies, And fish he catches | beneath the cliffs. 64. More fair than the sun, | a hall I see, Roofed with gold, | on Gimle it stands; There shall the righteous | rulers dwell, And happiness ever | there shall they have. full 45.: 45. Brothers shall fight | and fell each other, And sisters' sons | shall kinship stain; Hard is it on earth, | with mighty whoredom; Axe-time, sword-time, | shields are sundered, Wind-time, wolf-time, | ere the world falls; Nor ever shall men | each other spare. full 47.: 47. Yggdrasil shakes, | and shiver on high The ancient limbs, | and the giant is loose; To the head of Mim | does Othin give heed, But the kinsman of Surt | shall slay him soon.

I finished my PhD thesis with this song. While I was writing all alone during the lonely pandemic winter, after listening 2 weeks non-stop, the zikr (rythmic breathing) in this song reminded me of Islam and my roots, so I cleaned myself Islamically (gusl) and prayed the midday prayer first time after 15 years. Eventually it didn't hold on that long, so in the same evening I bought a bottle whiskey and got drunk in the evening and shook my head in the living room and did some tungusic throat singing, still the same song in the background. These details don't matter really, but I just want to put the emphasis how great this song is and it can take you to a large spectrum of different worlds!! Hail King Ragnar!
