betarage Legion is great, and it's current content is plentiful, for the most part fun, and relevant. Question is, how will it age in the players mind? Would it be fondly remembered, would it actually get better as the years go on, or will it be heavily criticized for its flaws after the glimmer fades into the future expansion.

Thanks for the vid, it was a solid, deep dive into the content, subbed. It's weird... For me (and friends), this xpac caused us to stop playing. The main reason being the over simplification of the game (I understood why, just wasn't my jam). But there is a lot of love for the MoP, visually I appreciated the upgrades and in hind sight much seemed great. And still... I can't bring myself to like this content. It was a decisive and massive shift towards a younger audiences, and I can't get over the willingness of blizz to throw the people who made the genre a lifestyle and boosted its popularity to previously unseen numbers, to the side... I recently started playing with my 2 young daughters and they enjoy the game, but there is still a deep seeded "sadness" in all of this... I enjoy playing with my kids, but can't wait until I feel they are ready to play without their parents... The way I look at WoW now: It's the "call of duty" of MMO's, decent but geared as a "gateway" game for younger kids that once broken down, intelligent individuals will see through their simplistic systems eventually and move on. The worst part? Like COD, the soon to come pay to win systems and pay walls to retain profitability will accelerate... Perhaps Classic will help, but you can't give people back their memories and the idea that rewinding the clock 10 years will work these days is laughable... They have backed them selves in a corner, but before this patch it had a chance to change the direction... Shame how the lust for money ruins great things...

I was the person who organized those 3-4 groups for Ondasta. But I don't remember any criticism. Everyon loved it. Blizzard tried to make the boss hard and require a coordinated 40 man group, but at the same time allowed tapping by multiple raid groups. So rather then coordinating mechanics, people zerged it. I organized 4 x 40 m raid groups on dragonmaw -US to kill it without coordination. The only issue it caused was the server sometimes crashed. This pushed Blizzard to develop the sharding system we have today and to make sure world bosses weren't as hard. THAT was what upset the community, we liked the hard boss and wanted more. But technology was and still is limited by blizzard.

Funny to think this is the time I started playing. And that right before 5.4 launched I hit max level. I do hope you can talk about the rares that pandaria had spawned throughout the land and the content those provided. Back when my dad and step mom played that is what we would do. We woukd group up and go on a mini parade around pandaria to find these rares for their loot. It's something I loved to do. Something I miss. It's one of those fun unique things that while it might not seem like they do much or was things I could do to.keep playing. Nothing better than getting these bags of herbs and ore to sell or getting a mount from the warbringers or tagging a rare before someone else could.... those where the days. The days when I would go to do something for FUN that had no real reward except the satisfaction of myself or just cool nick nack things.

Same it felt like i always had something to do, to progress. I started about a month before mop and getting gear and just playing through the patches always felt like i was doing something with a purpose. With legion and draenor it feels like your just farming for farmings sake, just to get more gold or something. Where as in MoP you'd be doing it for the factions rewards or just your favorite faction, or gear or valor something tangible not some rng crates that probably will give you gear you don't want. Even pvp was worth it back then when you could get gear from doing pve and contest with geared pvp players. Everything seemed to just work together and make you feel like everything you did was worth it.

This was one of the best expansions or content. At the time I was at Uni so I had plenty of free time so I didn't mind the amount of content. I couldn't manage it with my work schedule now though so I can see it being a bit much for some people. The RNG of the legendary quest was frustratingly inconsistent. sometimes getting 2 tokens and sometimes getting 5 - 6 made it very frustrating, especially when I was a bit younger and stressy about such things. Isle of thunder was brilliant though.

Not to be that person, but Lor'themar also turned a blind eye to Garrosh (since he was aware of the actions of Garros and Aethis) and the events with the Divine Bell, so while they were in talks to potentially re-join the Alliance, they weren't fully honest with Varian about those goings-ons. Jaina was somewhat justified (altho very extreme) in her response. People seem to fail to realize that Blizzard purposefully writes characters with ambiguous motivations and codes of morality that are somewhat gray. The saddest part is how they had [Christie] Golden write such a development for Jaina in Warcrimes to completely undo it in game with the SoO cinematic, WoD, and then the start of Legion.
@TheSirtempest7 жыл бұрын

@stormstrider19907 жыл бұрын
Since the Divine Bell incident, most people seem to have pretty one- sided opinions about Aethas and Jaina. Alliance players see Aethas as a traitor and Horde players think Jaina is crazy. Jaina's recent character development has fed this assumption even more, leading to some thinking she's secretly evil now (dreadlord theory). I don't believe in any of that. I believe she still has potential to do good, especially now when the rumors about Kul Tiras being the next expansion going on.
@Desolate-Utopia7 жыл бұрын
1. No, Lor'themar didn't know about the actions of Garrosh and Aethas, relating to the bell. 2. Seeing as he wasn't aware of the planning of the theft, he was absolutely honest with Varian. Even entertaining the thought of re-joining the Alliance wasn't an easy proposition I assume, and would have made many Blood Elves upset, seeing as how they and their king were previously betrayed by the Alliance. But he knew it was the best way to protect his people. 3. Slaughtering innocent civilians was justified? That makes her no better than Garrosh. I find it interesting that so many people on both sides have a hard time looking at Jaina's actions without bias. A lot of terrible things have happened to her, but a lot of her actions as of late cannot be justified.

Preach Jeremy Jacobson. I love how Alliance fans were spitting venom at Garrosh from the day he appeared, constantly accusing him of being cancerous and calling for his death....but Jaina attempting to imprison and cause a genocide of the citizen bloodelves in Dalaran is "Justified". There's no changing their mindsets though, they believe in their hearts that everything the Alliance does is for the good of the world...even when so much evidence has pointed that both the horde and the alliance have good and very dark traits.

This was also the beginning of the "Marvel Avengers" lets say for WoW. Prior to mists, each expansion focused on a few characters and then did away with them. In Mists, we got to know more of the leaders of the factions quite a bit better as they would pop up quite frequently. Lor'Themar and Vol'Jin come to mind - two characters who previously got zero screen time. This early investment has lead to now where you definitely do tend to recognize many of the characters and the lore definitely seems like the marvel universe with so many different recognizable characters always playing a part.

Somewhere out on the Internet is a great screenshot from the Chinese version of World of Warcraft. Due to the waves of player death caused by Oondasta, the ground where he was standing was a literal graveyard filled with head stones. This was caused by an interesting quirk of Chinese censorship where bones and skeletons cannot be shown in video games. So in China, when a player dies in World of Warcraft, a grave with a headstone materializes rather than a skeleton.

"Garrosh was being a bit of a dick" :) Great! I loved MoP. Coming back to WoW in MoP, I liked the more casual feeling with LFR so I could still experience the content even if the rewards were shite. If you're doing LFR the rewards should be shite. As a previous HC raider, it takes a week of farming to get ready for raids as guilds expected you to have everything you needed when you raided. It became a second job. As a long time RPG-er, I want to experience the story. Not talking bad about HC raiders, I just can't do it anymore but I applaud those of you who do.

On my server 5.1 didn't add anything. There was such a population imbalance that you could find your "base" decimated by opposite faction players, all NPC's dead practically all day long. The idea was good in theory, but it never panned out. I didn't even know there was a story about a bell because it was impossible to advance the story. Forcing people to pvp never works. I never got a legendary cloak because it forced you to pvp. I also never got my weapon to drop for my legendary gem to go into, killing the boss I needed too with a bonus roll every week for months.

One of the big problems of Mists was that the world was nice, the raids were good... but a lot classes were not especially fun. Tanks now had to deal with the new active mitigation and healers were a bit lacking after getting revamped again after Cata. A lot of dps specs were again not viable so your choices were again limited.... ( the absolute best about Legion is the class balance so far). The new talent system basically had optimal and not optimal builds so it was basically a far less creative talent tree and very very boring for leveling, because it felt like your character didn't grow.

@aerieleah5335 жыл бұрын
I was disappointed you didn't talk too much about the hunter taming challenges. I did every one in cata and mists. Mists was a leg up from them. You had the tracking system, which let you hunt down rare mobs no one but hunters could see and tame them. My quilen from the xpac was one such mob. But more importantly, you had the porcupine spirit beasts. Firelands brought the spiders, which were cool, but MOP brought it to the next level. The spiders had fairly simple mechanics. Dethtilac--avoid his instant death move. Kite kite kite. Tame at low hp. One spider was fast. One spider had to be ran into the lava to be damaged and tamed. The other taming challenges in cata were even simpler. Get naked for the cats. Stand on a tree or do some really complex shit for Bathalos. Find and keep ghost crawler from okoing you. But mop's sb were wonderful Imho. Degu was the hardest and made an interesting nod to hunter history, since you kited him him and down a path with stealthed mobs that you'd regret not clearing like the vanilla hunter quest for the bow. He also had a dead zone you had to stay in. If you got too far he'd start a cast that could two shot even people who were geared. If you got too close he would absolutely wail on you. Gumi was the fast one you had to use aspect of the pack for and even then normally you had to jump shot. Going up a mountain. Hutia was easiest. You just kited her around a log and interrupted her heal. Maybe these weren't as complicated as some of the future ones, but I always remember being very proud of mine. More even than loque, which I used more, but Degu in particular was a bitch to tame, since a lag spike could get you killed. And there was no using your pet for this. The beast would just kill it immediately, so you were severely gimped on damage, as you had to be BM to tame them.
@LostChildOfTime7 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I'm kinda tired of rep being something that's locked to a character when I think it should be server+faction-wide granted as the game progresses, it always gives you the opportunity to make a lot of alts for a variety of reasons. In Legion, I've never had so many alts since the game encouraged a lot of long time players to try new classes if their beloved Ret Paladin wasn't similar enough to previous xpacs. I just don't care to exalt every faction on more than 1 character. Blizz has been offering incentives to do the content to earn rep on alts, but it just feels so tiring and redundant - and the mission board just can't really compensate since it pretty much is just a time gated reward system that demands so little gameplay (yet surprisingly so much time). And I think the problem is that there just aren't enough ways to earn rewards which was actually not an issue in MoP. I really miss the justice/valor system because those were incentives to play the content through dungeons, raids and scenarios. The only bonus currency in Argus buys you armor tokens you might not need if you raid heroic ToS so it's only useful if you're trying to get a legendary. But now the incentive to play the content is to grind everything out for a chance to get some legendary or AP. Argus could've felt more lucrative given it's size, but it just doesn't meet the standard of quality that was put into Timeless Isle.... and I can only hope that Blizz addresses this in a future patch by adding some new items on Argus that aren't locked behind rep, but locked behind currency. (That's not gold, obviously.) It can be locked behind a server+faction rep, but you still have to grind for the currency that's character bound, and let it be acquired through Mythic +0 dungeons and mobs/chests/scenario-quests on Argus.

mechanically and class design wise - I think MoP was amazing and the last xpac where classes felt truly unique and had character. Wasn't a fan of the setting or story, but the game's bones were rock solid. I also thought gearing was setup well, especially compared to Legion...

I think class identity is waay stronger in Legion than MoP

Mop had to be my favorite with TBC a close second

So funny that mists is far in the rearview at this point, to me it looks futuristic! I quit wow back before wotlk came out, and man has it changed! Amazing they kept going & are still going though, might be the longest-lived popular mmo ever.

Love your content. A small critique tho. The sound of the game audio was a bit loud and in the way of your audio (especially around the section where you talked about the twin consorts)

watching this and hearing talk of 5.3 right as Warfronts have launched

It was different. It was better than WoD by miles. I think it was the last XP I had fun in. They gave us flying, not too much grinding unless you wanted to and the classes played well (to me). I leveled up 12 toons to 90. Compare that to one toon to 100 in WoD because of all the crap and no flying, and zero toons above 103 in Legion.

Do this for the rest of the expacs too. Good stuff!
