Scary Bismarck is scary. My stock Leander has concealment and firing range at around 10km. The concept of accurate HE secondaries at that range is pretty damned horrifying.

You need an übermensch captain to be -accurate- at that range, though, that 15 point skill is what reduces the dispersion of secondaries by 60% for ships of T8 and up.

it is with this build I had so many victories in Ranked battles on Bismarck. Two games were particularly intense, the first, on Neighbors, my team was beginning to collapse, I put my pants on and charged into the enemy fleet with secondaries blazing, I sunk the two enemy DDs and played with an Island to avoid torps from a Mogami and keep hiding from a North Carolina, my fellows fortunately didn't let me die in vain and charged with me and so we won. The second, I worked with an Amagi and between the two of us, we did all the work on Northern Lights, the enemy was overconfident and thinking they had won (they sunk all the other ships on our team with ease) and scattered stupidly so we could finish them off one by one. The last red Amagi, we did it together, he got wrecked in two salvos, one from me, the other from my teammate. But a DD dead quite rapidly helped us by laying a smoke screen which helped me to hold B against 3 ships at one earlier, so at least some of the others from the team weren't completely useless after all. In Random games too, my secondaries are the way to go on Bismarck, and on Frierderich and Kurfürst as well. My Friederich once scored over 436 secondaries hits in one battle.

yea The secondaries are the way to go on all the german BBs, the kaiser and konig are kinda meh. But it's the Bayern where they start to get good, my favorite thing with that ship is getting in close with new mexicos. But even the premiums have good secondaries, The Albert lacks range and can't be upgraded but their firepower alone can rip its counterparts to shreds, The Scharnhorst has wonderful secondaries, plus torps so yay. The Tirpitz is outclassed by the Bismarck in terms of secondaries, but makes up for it with her torps.

panzer lord42 Strange I always found my Bayern to lack power on its secondaries whether my Konig seems to be doing just fine... König can fire at approx 7 kms with its secondaries with all upgrades and flags... the Kongo gets ripped apart in a short time and don't speak of New York... Even tier 6 BBs struggle against König secs and armor.

Yea, the Nürnberg did the right thing by firing AP. Its HE is utter shit and you can do a surprisingly amount of damage with AP by hitting the superstructure of battleships. You can't angle against that either.

indeed as with high tier cruisers, you have to understand that sometimes you can do a lot of damage with AP on broadside BBS, and that Nurn was doing 6k per salvo, if he kept it for a min, with his rpm he could have killed the bismarck just from the ap fire

Sumber Rejeki That is because the Nurn player was shooting AP at the Bismarck's hull. If he knew what he was doing he would have shot at the superstructure were he can easily pen and do alot of damage.

I've found the German BBs are very newbie-friendly; they fire fast, have surprisingly good armor, their AA is ridiculous at low levels and respectable at high levels, and they're fairly maneuverable. And the secondaries...oh, dear God. Those secondaries are a nightmare, even at t3, 4, and 5. Now I know I'm going to get a lot of flak for my description of the German BBs, but it's just my personal experience with them. As Jingles says, your mileage may vary.

Hey Jingles, He's doesnt have the full secondary build for the captain, as the final 5 point skill "manual fire control for secondaries" requires you to click the ship you want your secondaries to fire at, if you dont they dont open up. he doesnt select any ships during that battle. Great result thou

Jingles please don't assume that the nurnberg would fair any better firing HE at the Bismarck. With the worst HE damage and the lowest fire chance of any tier 6 cruiser what could he do in terms of damage, not including the fact that the Bismarck's fire control still had 11 seconds of use just before he nuked the nurnberg. Firing AP would yield a better result

He probably had the secondaries captain.... otherwise they would be shooting both sides at the end. Probably doesn't show the target select icon in the replay. Also, don't think the Nuremberg was wrong to shoot AP when he was broadsided... should have aimed a little higher though. German cruiser HE, except, Yorck, is shit.

That Nurnburg did exactly 5,247 damage with his first AP salvo at 6:25, he would have been lucky to do over 1k if that was HE, and he would not have set a fire because the place he hit was already on fire. At 6:33 he hit again with AP for exactly 3,890 damage and again would not have set a fire because it would have been put out instantly as he was in the middle of using damage control. Now all his fire after that is poorly aimed and barely hits the Bismark, that's not going to do any damage regardless if its AP or HE and he has almost no chance to set a fire and even if he did get lucky, 11sec after the Nurnberg dies his damage control comes off cooldown. The ammunition choice was not the Nurnbergs problem, it was his inalienability to properly aim the shots after the Bismark started to maneuver that was the problem. Oh for the ones wondering when the Nurnberg fired HE at the Bismarck it was one salvo at 3:28 for 6 hits not even 600 damage and 0 fires.

As a Soviet DD captain, where you guns outrange the bismarck's secondaries by about 1.5 KMs, facing off against a Bismarck is absolutely terrifying. That said, with a particular captain's skill I've been able to extend my range to abour 3.5 KMs beyond secondary range, so all is well. (and pity the poor DDs who have to face off against what is effectively a light cruiser now. :D )

The Nurnberg was getting full penetrations through our hero's secondary belt, hence the 10,000 damage. He should have switched to HE when the BB angled, yes, but Nurnberg HE is so trash it still wouldn't have made up the difference to cause a kill when the Bismarck was low health later. Not even close. And if he had been firing it the whole time he'd have done far less overall damage. AP into a flat battleship side is in fact the right ammo choice for a German light cruiser.

My Konigsberg can do 3-5k salvos against BBs with AP, so I'm guessing the Nurnberg can too. You just have to hit the superstructure instead of the hull, or if you somehow find yourself close enough, into the upper belt. I've blasted apart a few BBs that thought they could ignore my AP and focus on the BBs shooting at them... they didn't last long.

It looks fishy but it might be a replay bug, sometimes if you use the free camera look in a replay it can fuck up turret rotation even though they were aimed in the right direction in the actual match.

I have been watching the Mighty Jingles for almost a year now and i finally decided to play World of Warships. I have to say its pretty fun and everything i have learned watching the game has made me a decent Noob in the game. I can not wait to unlock the Uss New York because my grandfather was a engineer on that ship. Anyway is there any tips anyone has for a Noob? Also when are they bringing in some more BB's for the British and Russians? I mean both countries had BB's on there side.

If you want to focus on BBs, I think the main advice is: Do NOT repair one single fire ever, unless you know you are going to go into stealth, or hard cover during the immunity time for as much time as your repair cool-down. I've played a lot of BBs, and the New York is... of course an improvement over the Wyoming, but not such a massive leap as the New Mexico is from the New York. Anyhow, New York does prepare you as player hammering the idea of angling. The New York does not have a very efficient turret placement as in order to fire a whole broadside you gotta go over 45 degrees of angling, whilst you usually want to stay around 30, not more, to fire and quickly back to show just the bow. So with the New York you learn that plenty of times it is better not to use all your guns in order to be able to withstand the incoming fire (from big AP shells towards you) Next big tip which you have to learn with BBs, is map positioning. This is specially important the slower the BB is, so USN BBs up to Colorado are the best teachers... you want to go to the middle of the map, never the borders because the slower you are, the more difficult it will be to correct your position. If with a slow BB (21-23 knts) you go to the border, well, good luck supporting even the center of the map from there. You have to think minutes in advance: Shall I start turning the gun and the ship now to head the other way? once this flank is done with, can I engage anything else from this position? because if you cannot, you will not contribute to the battle for a loooong time... On the other hand you have the Fusos sitting at 20 km in their base... they are useless because having the range does not mean that you have to sit at maximum range, it means that you have the potential of supporting anything up to that range, but if you sit at the back, again, once the tiny amount of ships at your max range move away, what can you support? I'd say there is only 1 true snipping BB in the game, the Iowa, and snipping on her is at 14 km with concealment buffs... so please do not sit at max range. Also, BBs have the best armor and the biggest HP pool: use it! you gotta tank for your team, YOU have to attract damage upon you, just not too much... Do not be that Fuso at full hp at the end of a lost game, these guys usually sink instantly once they get focussed because have no bloody idea of what armor angling is and how to take hits... and they do not know because they never tried to support their team (also, fun fact: Fusos are quite easy to citadel at long range...). Check the video, that Bismarck leads from the front, there are mistakes, yes, but he absorbs the damage, because he can repair it or even neglect it thanks to the armor. HF!

IMHO I consider New York to be a big improvement (so better tier by tier) because you go from 12 inches to 14 inches main battery guns... And bigger caliber is very very important (when dealing with other BBs)

As to that Nurenberg, I'm grinding through that ship and I've got to tell you, it's not near as clear cut as you might think. During my last battle in that ship, I had over 90 he hits on a Fuso and a New Mexico. The net result was ... about 20k total done to those two ships including the damage done by the 2 or 3 fires (I forget how many) I set. The Bismarck was giving him an excellent broadside at a reasonable range, and given the pitiful number of fires I've been getting, doing a few extra thousands of damage with some AP isn't a bad idea. Of course, he should have switched back to HE much sooner, but that's another story.

It is funny how the Bismarck in the game has better AA than the Tirpitz when in reality, it was the other way around. Heck, even the ingame description of the Tirpitz says that it has improved AA to compensate for the thin deck armor. But also, gg to this Nürnberg. Him firing AP was definitely the correct choice. Look at those 5k and 6k AP volleys at the Bismarck.

As a Noob and a USN Vet on the NA server I've been enjoying your posts as I didn't really want to overly embarrass myself right out of the drydock. At least the first salvo of the Nürnberg was into the broadside of the Bismarck and did like 5,5k or so. That was actually an okay ammo choice, when the Bismarck then turned towards her, she should have switched.

Jingles, the math on the Nürnberg shots: 9,672/26 = 372 per shot 561/6 = 93.6 per shot If he had fired HE then a statistical probability of 1 fire, but low. AP was the right choice at the time, you are wrong. I will see myself to the Salt Mine.

Getting close and brawling with BBs is a barrel of fun. But against 4-5 DDs on the other team, it's not happening. Especially if their DDs kill your DDs in the first five minutes. Also, while buffing the secondaries to the max is definitely legitimate on the Bismarck, your main gun dispersion really pays the price. In many games (unlike this one with blessed MM), you don't get the luxury of getting this close, and tighter spreads on your main guns is a better option.

Jingles, German Cruisers usually have shitty HE (less than 7% stock on most German cruisers), it is common practice to use AP on German cruisers when attacking anything short of a destroyer within 12km. So, at your claim @ 6:40 would have resulted in less damage and a fire, that would have been nullified by the repair party.

A "secondary build" increases damage by A LOT ... but there isnt any such increase for destroyers and their torpedos or cruisers ... or even main damage builds for battleships.

Have you even tried the Bis? Going for the secondary build means giving up a lot on main gun reload, accuracy and skill points. All other t8 BBs have better firepower. Also you are risking a lot when getting within 10 km of multiple enemies.

+Sir Moke The only thing at tier 8 that affects BB main gun reload is Main Battery Mod 2 and that makes it slower. Accuracy? Okay, but the Bismarck is all about getting to 10km and stomping on everything. Skill points? Even with 15 points, you drop Basic of Survivability for BFT, Still choose Expert Marksman, Still choose Superintendent or High Alert, Still choose AFT, and still choose Manual Secondaries. In other words, the only skill you absolutely give up (but can get with 16 points) is BoS, which is a ONE point skill.

Bismarck's main battery will always have the worse accuracy in Tier 8 and will always have fewer and smaller guns than Amagi and North Carolina. Since you're already in a ship more suited to close-range brawling, full secondary is clearly the most sensible choice.

sorry but I strongly disagree. If you do not follow a secondaries build (i.e. my Tirpitz) there is no point in AFT as on almost all the BBs (specailly German BBs) Manual AA gives far more AA damage: Compare +100 % dps on big AA guns vs +20% equivalent dps due to the longer time within AA range for all the AA, usually manual AA leads to bigger numbers. And of course if you do not go for a secondaries build why would you go for manual secondaries, I can only think of Yamato using manual secondaries without a full secondaies build and mainly just as a defensive tool rather than offensive secondaries like this Bismarck. In other words, going for a secondaries build indeed gives up other things, mainly defense, for example my Iowa with C.E. (like Flamu explains) is able to sneak closer receiving less damage and using more the rear turret. Different ships require different builds. Full secondaries on the Bismarck is a pretty obvious build with pros, but which does imply giving up a few things. Full secondaries on an Iowa is a pretty amusing idea but... probably the cons would outweight the pros...

The problem with WG and AA is that they seem to believe that "balance" is when a single ship can adequately defend itself from 1+ full squadron(s). However, when you have, say, a few German BBS near each other, they don't even have to be paying attention and can still deplete almost an entire squadron or more. With this absurd level of AA, they might as well give carriers their historical-sized squadrons (18 VTs, 36 VBs, and 36 VFs American Sunday Punch) just to give them a fighting chance.

jingles, the nurnberg AP is very good and hitting a flat BB with its AP at the upper side armor will do pen damage and will actually be MASSIVE. add the fast ROF of the nurnberg and u can do WAY more dmg with AP than HE, as their HE is pretty bad anyway.

Hmm... unless there is a HUGE amount of lag going on in that replay, Ungrim_Baraz couldn't have had a full secondary build captain... his secondaries were firing on the Nürnberg despite not being told to focus fire. Same thing with the Leander later on, the secondaries kept starting to fire at everything in range without a focus fire order... The Tier 5 skill that gives -60% dispersion to the secondary guns also stops them from firing automaticly *AT ALL*, unless you tell them to fire at a specific target. Seeing the -35 ping in the upper left corner though... it might well be just a case of lag and a "confused" replay.
