The 1980s were so special, it felt special at the time, almost like a dream. English presenters used to rely on content, and the raw coverage had no other motives but to convey the pure excitement of motorsport. We were very lucky. I am grateful to those great men who built a white-hot technological era that burned too bright, and will never be equalled.

At the age of 11 i was enjoying my Scalextric Rally cross mini clubman My interest now in vintage rally is because i have a Saab 99 turbo unfinished project which i have managed to hang on to fo 18 years so far. You may have seen the Swedish rally were it competes against the Audi Q and an amazing mk2 escort

sidewayssam Thank you will let you know if i ever get round to those finishing touches. I spent one hour working on the 99 today started taking out the radiator, and had a look at the boot floor that i rebuilt also a very quick look at the front sub frame that also had some very extensive work back in 98 its has stood for seven years in a open front barn and seems to have stood the test of time very well. Striking it up is along way off at the moment though.As your a Saab technician which i envy you for, let me tell you this, the waist gate was completely rebuilt and converted to inlet manifold presser also it had a new head because the waist gate had trashed with pre ignition. I also have a 900 S Have you heard of Dave onyon, not sure if i got the sir name right ?

gren page no not heard of him, i used to have a 16s, till my mate rolled it into a field, tip for you, look out for the one way valves in the vacuum hoses, if you put them on the wrong way round, cause lots of odd problems..also the vacuum cut out for the ignition linked to the rev limiter,

Very sad that the Rally didn't run this year, major chick between the Government and the organisers. And think the days where drivers the quality of Ari Vatanen and Henri Toivonen are coming over here are long gone. How I'd love to see an Escort MK2 being thrown around the islands roads again.
