World Record Black Widow Speedrun in

A couple people destroyed my time so of course I had to do the same back! Big up ‪@seethrew‬ for the spear strat and ‪@soemzzzz‬ for improving and optimising the hedge lab jump up. This could still be cleaner and sub 4:30 is 100% in reach but I'm happy with this for now!

Very nice run, i cant believe that sub 4:30 could be possible. The routing here was very unique, making sure you get every possible pickup for the spears on the way there was very smart. I have been avoiding running grounded bc i knew there was no chance i could make a better strat than you, ima aim for sub 5:30 later. The fight was also very clean, cant believe you were able to get its AI to not shit itself AND not choke at the same time well done. A lot of that parkour hurt my brain, it seems so perfect I wouldn't believe if someone told me you were a pixel off TAS level positioning. GGS

Hey the more the merrier, and if you can beat 5:28 you'll have a crispy second place! ;) Yeah I was pretty happy with that, only missed two spears which were quite costly at a ~6 second time loss, but not bad still. Trying to figure out how to beat a black widow with t3 gear and weapons and then I see you do this. You are on another level. Worth a subscription for sure. I would like to see a speed run on Xbox though. Seems like PC is a lot easier with hot keys.

I was thinking of trying some controller runs at some point cause I haven't played on Xbox in over a year now. Could get a game pass deal and actually try it on Xbox too though. I much prefer mkb yeah and easier hotkeys is one of the reasons. I'm assuming Grounded is 60fps on Series X so I'd only have an advantage over the Xbone, the load times are just quality of life. External SSD on Xbone might not be too bad on that front though. Thanks for the comment!

Thanks bro! I was thinking that the route there should be the most direct and just focus on grabbing what materials I can on the way for just over 10 spears so I can have two volleys and some leftover in case they fly off randomly. Running faster than swimming too so wanted minimal time in the water and I probably did about 15-20 runs so was able to learn the swimming route pretty good, maxing swimming speed over distance with the jumping isn't something I've really done before. This can be faster so I'm keen to see someone beat this so I have to run it again! Tried thistles and spears were better but here's some of the routes I plotted beforehand imgur.com/a/H99UDxk

I found that route up the wall due to laziness. Lol i didnt want to go around. I also didnt do it at the beginning of the game either. Ive been finding all kinds of routes with the grass. Great work. I never would have fought that spider naked. 😅

The craziest speed run ive seen knowing it took me 126 days to kill one widow, how did you learn to parry so well?

I practiced against a wolf during early access first, just set my spawn nearby, aggroed a wolf then just tried to parry until I died. Rinse and repeat until I could parry like 75%. That improved over time to 99%+ and because the widow is just a sped up wolf it was an easy transition. The practice strat nowadays is to save your game, make it a custom game and turn player damage off as they changed it so you can now parry even when player damage is turned off. Practice for as long as you want then just load the save you made which will reenable achievements.

a lil myth I've been thinking of: if you stagger the widow for long enough, it can't hit you throughout the entire fight(requires Chopper and Coup de Grass), this also applies to every bug

Thanks! Was pretty happy with this run despite the spider standing still and missing the last spear. Did a few woah runs earlier and my best time landing on the top rock of the first parkour up the hedge lab wall was 2:01 so 5 seconds faster there (and I think it can still be faster); lost 8-9 seconds to the spider standing still for literally no reason after aggoring it; I think it's unnecessary making it jump to the smaller rock first so that could save another ~5 seconds; could start attacking it sooner saving another 5+ and I missed two spears costing yet another 5 seconds. So that means sub 4:10 is possible but screw going for that until someone beats this!

Have you tried practicing your perfect blocks against them? If you go into a custom game with player damage off and hunger/thirst drain off you can practice perfect blocking for as long as you want. Doing that for even just a few minutes will help you a lot against them!

This was before Black Widow got buffed. With enough time you will learn how to parry. Shields are really good because you dont need to perfect parry to block.

Originally I set up a lean-to by a sleeping wolf and practiced parrying, dying over and over until I got it somewhat down. Then they changed the player damage custom setting to allow you to parry so just save game, convert to custom, disable player damage, practice, reload save to reenable achievements. These days there's probably a good playgrounds mode out there for spawning and despawning each specific creature with just a button so you can quickly practice against whatever you want

Didn't even know there was a perfect block mod! So no, I didn't use that. Grounded parry window is already so generous I've never felt I needed a parry mod anyway. Only thing I've ever edited in this game is GameUserSettings.ini and Engine.ini for better control over graphics settings and to remove depth of field.

@@HolyCodzta I didn't do a full run, just tried to make it to the first jump up by 2:05 and I kept hitting 2:20

@@seethrew Ahh fair enough. Cheeky tip is to set up beacons along the route and practice running that a few times (just respawn at kid case when you get to the end). When you don't have to focus on which direction you're heading it makes it a lot easier to figure out and remember the finer details like which grass gaps you can't fit through and which rocks you can't jump up etc. So if you're following my route just put one at the field station and one at the start of the hedge wall jump up. I didn't do it that much with this run so I reckon you can improve the route for sure! Oh and make sure you're sprint jumping for efficient stamina use
