51 Minute Grounded Speedrun (1.3 Any% World Record)

This should have been sub 51!
With Trizze running Grounded for the month of March (and now Sekiro for April, check him out on twitch) and us all finding tons of new strats, I had to update to 1.3 so I could join in the fun and actually run on the current patch for once. My sum of best is now close to sub 50 but that's gonna have to wait! So far 1.4 is looking to be slower but hopefully we can find something that makes breaking the 50 minute barrier a bit easier...
Accurate time is 51:09.6. Showed saves at the end just to show the timestamps to prove it's one continuous run.

Hahaha haze swim saves so much time, I love it. Resources have different HP depending on difficulty and this was on mild so maybe that's why toenails aren't one hit for you. What level is your hammer? A level 1 hammer is enough on mild to one shot a toenail. It might make it a bit easier yeah but menus pause the game on mild so I try to avoid interrupting the javamatic timer as much as possible, hence running back for the cell at the end instead of just respawning like we used to. As for 1.4 yeah not much, slower if anything which is sad. Patch 1.4.2 they made bug looting faster again but I'm staying on 1.4.1 for a bit so I'm not sure how much faster. I think the only thing that has a chance of helping is the Deuces trinket but it only lasts for a few seconds and we don't really see any spiders on the route soooo... Thanks! Not sure when I'll go for it but I do really want that sub 50!

I think the part i like the most in all of your runs is the fact that theyre imperfect. Im not some grounded master, and the fact that so many time saves arent just about playing perfectly, but knowing niche strats makes these more fun to watch. And knowing that even if you learned all those strats, youd still be able to make more progress makes me enjoy your vids more

Actually yeah every time I run this I get my time to a good level and post it knowing it's not perfect and could still be improved, like aside from falling in the haze this run was pretty clean overall with some good new strats. Then I just wait for someone to beat me before trying to refine it more again

@HolyCodzta do you think that there's any more strats to learn or is it all up to skill now? Cuz I was thinking that maybe if there was either a really lucky run or a run with modded luck, you could grab the aphid statue in the berry lab and use rascal rogue to steal a speed droplet off a random aphid. Also, I don't know if you did this in the video or not, but the aphid slippers actually slow you down to less than normal whenever a threat is detected according to the wiki

Major time saves no, but tons of little time saves for sure. Like we need all four labs, hammer for sca.b so axe for pupa so termites and ox beetles (1 beetle can actually drop all the required parts but the chance is insane), undershed for mant then Wendell and then javamatic. 1.4 didn't add anything to the base game, like a new T3 hammer for example, that can change or skip any of those steps so now it's just cutting a little corner here, finding a 2 second faster parkour route here, that kinda stuff. Like Trizze finding the new jump and faster berry at hedge, not a game changer but saves 3-4 seconds. The koi statue is more on route than the aphid one, but the chance to steal anything is so low with only the T1 mutation you can't rely on it. Could start doing it anyway and then hope I can clutch the rest of the run if I do somehow get the speed droplet, grinding that out and actually going for that is not something I wanna do though haha. They've changed and then had to fix the slippers and natural explorer so many times it wouldn't surprise me! Fortunately combat is only engaged if you attack or parry something so you can try and avoid that

@@HolyCodzta I got another question. I know burgl tells you to get the hedge chip first, but is there any way to break the order? The pond chip is right next to the oak lab chip, but you're tasked to get the hedge chip first. I assume the pond lab is inaccessible till ypu get the hedge chip or something though

@@JohnsonSteel Nah you can do them in any order. Could be something to take a look at again to make 100% sure, but if you do pond first, respawning at the field station and running to depths mouth would be faster than running from oak lab to depths mouth. Then you've gotta run from the field station to hedge instead of from the oak lab hand scanner which is probably a very similar time but you get one less landmark, and not having natural explorer in black ant lab would lose 15+ seconds easy

Hey, I'm wondering if you cound do a ng+ (newgameplus) speedrun on 1.4 (so starting ng+ completing the story (doing the java) and defeating the wasp queen, mantis and broodmother). It might be interesting routing the same story but with all equipment unlocked. Also it would be very helpful for anyone getting into the 1.4 update. Thanks in advance!

I'm actually working on NG+ any% already! So no extra bosses, just the story. Full NG+1 to NG+2 run should also be a thing though so I'll do that too! Going in with min/maxed builds, meals, smoothies, ziplines... Yeah it's good stuff

@@HolyCodzta That is amazing. Yeah NG+1 to NG+2 without the extra bosses is fine too since these are easy to route anyways. NG+2 to NG+3 would also be very interesting due to the addition of teleporters lol. Edit: btw do you stream anywhere? Otherwise i will be hyped to wait until your first run will be uploaded since i want to go NG+1 to NG+2 (and maybe beyond) as fast as possible so i am looking for a quick and easy route!

Oh dunno if the route will be any good for you, I set up ziplines going everywhere lol. I think cause you unlock teleporters in NG+2 it would have to be NG+3 to NG+4, but yeah I am keen for a deathless teleporter NG+3 run. Don't currently stream no but have been told a few times now that I should so maybe! NG+1 run is getting there though so hopefully this week

Hey Holy; curious on your take on 1st vs 3rd person (i started playing in 1st ((obviously)) for a long time, but have been 3rd person for a while now)

Just personal preference tbh! I'd never say anyone is right or wrong for using either. A lot of the time I struggle in combat to tell if I'm close enough to hit something in 3rd but would probably get to used to it eventually. 99% of parkour I find easier in 1st and also picking up items. I do like how cinematic 3rd feels though so being using it more in regular play

How do you huck and then grab items soooo fast? is there some way to bind scroll wheel somehow outside of the game or something or are you just using the E key?

You mean in combat, like hucking the club and catching it again? First you wanna turn on wide interact in accessibility settings, that makes the pickup hitbox for the club (and everything else too) way bigger. Then it's just timing! I have huck set to side mouse button and yeah just use E to grab it again after it hits

Haha thanks. Well I was actually doing one on 1.2! I was still on 1.2 months after 1.3 released so I could get that TAS done (door glitches got patched) but then Trizze started running Grounded in March which caused us all to start hunting strats again and with Zylo running it too I felt I had to join in so I updated to 1.3. I've not given up on it but I'd have to downgrade my game and I don't wanna do that for now

Can't actually skip the intro anymore! This was from a set save which I can explain more about if you want but it's basically to avoid the annoying rng with stuff like meal in the pond lab outpost and black ox parts that straight up kills a run if you don't get lucky. The game starts at 0D 7H 0M so we've agreed that as long as that's the time on the save you can most likely use it for a run. It's basically Grounded's version of random seed vs set seed

Why'd you ready a workbench blueprint while you were inside the stump, place it after passing by, and then move it? Wouldn't it have been easier to just place it outside the stump lab in the first place?

That'd make it easier for sure! So glad they made that change. Done quite a few broodmother runs but not since the slight rework so I should give it another go at some point. Tons of other runs to do as well though so right now I'm waiting for somebody to beat my time then I'll definitely come back to it!

Cause there's still so many optimisations to be found! Without anyone else running it at times I wasn't motivated to get the time as low as I actually could, so I'd get a clean enough run done of the route I had and wait to work on it more until someone beat me. Trizze running it in March brought us to all hunt new strats as well so this run is what came of that

How do you keep getting your loot back?

On mild and medium difficulty all equipped and crafted items will stay in your inventory when you die, so armour, weapons, crude rope, meals etc. On whoa mode only your equipped items stay with you. There's also the recover backpacks feature in the Game Repair section in the pause menu. This teleports your backpacks to the starting kid case but you can only do it once per session, so if you've done it once but wanna do it again just save and load and you can do it again

Right now I don't see how sub 45 is possible, my sum of best isn't even sub 50 yet! Tighten up the lines and I think a 49:30 would be the limit, and that's not taking into account how 1.4 has slowed it down a little with bug looting time. I would definitely be keen to keep pushing the time lower but there's no one else running it to discuss strats with and compete against

When I first started with broodmother runs the hardest part was remembering everything I needed to get along the way. But if you're good at the combat already I don't think it'd be too difficult to get into. Trizze started to learn this run after just a few attempts!
