I'm non-binary and use they/them pronouns! Comments ignoring this will simply be removed.
I speedrun the original Monkey Ball games, too! On my first day back to SMB1, I got Master Warpless record by quite a lot! This run was a whole adventure, but I'm rather proud of it. I might shoot for sub-17 soon.

WOOOOOOW, Ok so check this out. I was the Assistant Lead on the Sega of America QA Team for this game back in 2000-2002. And one of my responsibilities was verifying that Master difficulty could be completed. So I spent about two months attempting to complete this mode. That was literally all my manager had me focusing on that entire time. Come in, clock in, jump into the latest build of SMB and attempt to beat Master mode. I remember when I finally did achieve that goal, it was such a rush of adrenaline. It was like one of the highlights of my 35+ year gaming career. Seeing someone doing this in 17 minutes is just insane to me. lmao. I used to think I was pretty good at games... lmao. *Slow Clap*

If this is actually legit then this is probably the coolest comment I've ever received. Thank you for your work! I first played Super Monkey Ball nearly two decades ago and have thousands of hours of speedrun practice. I couldn't imagine being thrown into this game with no prior experience and being asked to beat Master in two months; that's wildly impressive in its own right.

@@Helix13_ Hey thank you for buying these games, so we had jobs! Yeah it was a trip. I remember being so overwhelmed, I requested an office to myself, just so I could focus. Then I'd go in there, turn off the lights and just bust my ass to get through it. I wonder if I could clear these stages again. It's been so long since I played this game lol. They had me do something similar when we got to the end of testing Sonic Adventure 2. In order to secure every emblem in that game, I needed to complete every single activity at maximum rank, including S ranking every Mission and all sub-mission types. I think the total was 200 or something like that. When I finally got it, and I saw the notification that I had unlocked Green Hill Zone, I practically shit myself!!! My manager told me to pick a game from the SEGA library to take home as a thank you. They did that when I finished SMB on master too. And yeah this comment is legit. Amazingly QA testers also watch KZbin videos about the games they worked on, right? lol. But if that doesn't convince you, PM me and I'll show you a picture of the Sonic Team signed copy of the Sonic Adventure 2 Birthday Pack, Japanese only edition that Yuji Naka handed me in 2001 at the Sonic 10 Year Anniversary party at SOA. It's pretty boss lol. Cheers!

Was there ever a thought in your or anyone else's mind that the game was too difficult? Not even master difficulty, but any of the game? Because the game can get pretty insane 🤣 Especially SMB2, did you work on that one as well?

@@triple7marc I only tested SMB2 for a few weeks, but I completely agree that both games were way harder than they should have been lol!

Hey it's not bad taking 2 months to complete it by yourself. These speed runs use strategies from the collaborative work of many different players so they got that as a huge advantage.

Just discovered you today, I never grew up playing much Monkey Ball but it’s something I got more interested in in recent memory. Such an ingenious and simple concept for a game and I love experimenting with interesting ways to clear each stage. This was an awesome run to watch and congrats to coming back to SMB1 with a world record!

Always super cool to see a new SMB speedrun, i just recently managed to get to and beat master mode myself after a pretty long break so it's like my recommendations knew i was in a monkey ball mood. Great run though, and super close to sub 17, i know you can do it!

This is nuts. I am not too deep in the speedrun community for this game but would like an explanation for the pausing lol. Does it have something to do with directional influence or something?
@Helix13_
@Helix13_ Жыл бұрын
Because Super Monkey Ball is deterministic, if I perform the exact same inputs on the exact same frames, I will always get the same result. Knowing this, I can pause on specific frames (using the timer as a cue) and use my Gamecube controller's notches to hold an exact direction, allowing for frame-perfect strategies to be performed that would otherwise be nearly impossible for humans. To put it simply, I'm essentially following a list of instructions to mimic a (very basic) TAS. Floor 6 is a great example of this: I leave the control stick neutral until 56.98, pause and switch to up-right, hold up-right until 56.53, pause and switch to up-left, then hold up-left until I reach the goal, allowing for me to consistently perform what would otherwise be a double-frame perfect strategy, and saving about 14 seconds over a casual finish. Pauses in quick succession are generally just working toward a specific frame. It's very difficult to pause frame-perfectly, so often runners will pause slightly before their desired frame, then hit B to close the pause menu and start to bring it back up very quickly to advance time by very small amounts until reaching their desired frame.

So. Many. Pauses. 🤔 I don't think pauses should be allowed in this category, but it's still a very impressive performance. Better than I could have done!

🌜⭐☀I think the point was with this video , who is bibi and BoBo or something like that for the other monkey.... Anyway, this channel literally feeds their monkeys well. I can tell by watching that these monkeys don't suck their thumbs, they don't show signs of being afraid or depressed and they are always playing and eating well. The question is, and I think the point needed to come across, is how do they train the monkey in order to get him to do this? Keep him hungry? Beat him? That is what a lot of people assume when they see a trained monkey because in the old school times when people trained monkeys and animals for the fair, carnival and circus they would starve and beat them into submission most of the time. I don't see signs of that being done with these monkeys and trust me it would be very visible and noticeable. Also, a question to ask is how does it seem the monkeys feel about being dressed and doing all these tricks or activities if you will? Are they uncomfortable or do they seem okay and happy? I don't know because I am not the monkey or living in their consciousness but a good way to tell is pay attention to the behavior of the monkey and notice does he or she look stressed or show fear like when they "smile" but it's actually a fear grimace not a smile and sucking their thumb is a sign of trauma or clinging to themselves and putting their head between their legs and flinching constantly or hiding...I don't see that with this monkey but not to say they could be pausing or editing any behavior like that. I don't like the monkey being dressed or constricted in clothes but hey I don't like clothes myself and think we should all still be naked so whatever. I'm not saying it's right to force a monkey to wear clothes and do other tricks because although, they are primates like us non -human, it's not exactly sensible, other than for the monkey looking cute or more human, to put clothes on one. I literally saw someone dress their monkey the other day and then go dangle it from a tree. Now why would someone do that? Monkeys have fur for a reason not clothes because their clothes would get hung on branches in trees and cause them to fall or get stuck so definitely please don't dress your monkey then put it in a tree or let it try to go climb a tree. I guess it's a matter of preference and opinion if owning a pet monkey is right or wrong but as long as it's not illegal in your state or place you reside then that is your choice and right. However, it would be great if whoever decides to get a pet monkey would treat it nice and fair and with love and kindness and not dress it and make it do tricks but we all know that's not the case with most. I have two monkeys I rescued from a breeder. They both clung to me and my daughter for 6 months solid. Rarely let go. They eat great and healthy and play with each other and us in the grass and trees and have a very good life. We do not put clothes on them for any reason and only put diapers when they are indoors. However, we constantly keep their diapers changed and clean if they are indoors for the night or I should say when they are indoors for the night. We have never posted any kind of video and never will. We don't care for them for monetary gain or to be seen and noticed but because non human primates are our favorite animal and one that has a special interest to my daughter and me. We have been working on the last 5 months starting our own private safe haven and sanctuary and we want to go to these other countries where these abuse videos are happening and offer large amounts of money to the people for their monkeys and to not post anymore videos with animals abusing them and this would be under contract to receive the payout. We then want to take monkeys back to our sanctuary and begin the long process of healing and nurturing and rehabilitating. It seems like a long shot but if money is what these people are after then I can't sleep good at night knowing I could take a plane, go to the country, give my money away, save the monkey from this day in and out torture they are going through and give them a shot at feeling love, care, nourishment for their bodies, rest and some peace where for once in their pitiful daily lives they won't feel scared or worried what will happen next or will they get to eat today or tomorrow or a week from now? I would send those people straight to jail myself if I believed it would help but jail or being chastised by authorities will not cure sadism and that is what this basically narrows down to. How cruel can humanity get before we ever make a change? We are so socially and consciously behind that it's embarrassing to a point that other civilizations from other planets literally call us " the planet of children". I know children who wouldn't behave in this manner though, starting with my own. My daughter is going to begin college to study and become a vet when she graduates high school and she has always been an animal lover, she won't even kill a spider.🕸🤗 She is so upset over this monkey abuse situation that she is the one who had this idea to go there to these other countries and get these monkeys. Blessings 🙏 and peace ☮ to everyone and sending out positive vibes in all points in time and space for everyone's life. 💕 🐒💕☀⭐🌛
