World Record Whitetail | 213 5/8-inches

Back in 1994 Bill Jordan sat down with Milo Hanson. The fall prior to their sit down, November 23, 1993 to be exact, Milo shot a buck of a lifetime. Little did Milo know, 26 years later and his buck still sits at the top of the list on Boone & Crockett for the largest typical whitetail taken.

My Dad brought home Monster Bucks 2 when it was new, and the Hanson Buck and Damery Buck were my first experiences with Monster Buck Profiles. I believe they were game changers for Realtree's videos. I didnt know the actual story of this harvest until now, and that was a pretty awful story of a incredible buck. Driving him from woods to woods and taking horrible shots at him and wounding him with two shots before finally putting him down with another. Awful story for a absolute giant whitetail. Cant believe that deer was only 3 1/2 years old, imagine him at 5 with mass!

Saw a replica of this deer at a trade show. Its bigger than it looks. Had to take the antlers off to go in the door with it. I do not believe it was 3 1/2

I had the VHS that this interview was on when I was a kid. It was on Realtree Outdoors Monster Bucks volume 2. I think volume 2 was the first edition of their Monster Bucks videos where they started putting these monster buck profiles on there where they profiled a huge buck and would interview the person who took it. Volume 2 had another buck profile on it as well. If I remember correctly the other buck was a big non-typical killed in Illinois by a hunter using a shotgun with slugs. He talked about having to crawl thru a ditch in a cornfield to get close enough to take a shot since Illinois doesn’t allow rifle hunting and he had just a slug gun that obviously doesn’t have the range of a rifle.

The craziest thing man is that when they sent this deers jawbone off the be aged, it hey estimated him to be only 3.5 to 4.5 years old! So this buck was still young and quite possibly could’ve been bigger the next year if he’d had made it thru the season. He does look young when you just look at the mount. Honestly tho if he would have survived to the next year there’s a good chance he would’ve lost his symmetry and might have started becoming more non typical. The bigger they get they start having more chance at growing more and more abnormal points which would have obviously knocked him out of the running for the whitetail deer most prized award which is the all time world record TYPICAL buck. That’s the prize man! Sure there’s a non typical record too. But EVERYBODY who hunts knows about the Milo Hanson buck, the world record typical killed in Canada in 93 but i guarantee not many folks know the non-typical world record or who killed it. It’s just because everyone remembers those big huge prototypical whitetail bucks especially when they’re world class record breakers.

@@caulburns1 I'm sure they age by teeth growth and numbers...if for some reason his teeth didn't come in they would have no clue on his age....I killed a 10.5 year old in camp blanding Florida WMA...it was aged by two biologist and they both said its at the very end of our charts and photos...and they said that's about 3 years past what we have ever seen in this WMA..which by the way was prior to ww2..do I believe it was 10.5 years old and its horns were big and thick like his body..his face and head didn't look old...its a chance he had more teeth growing than he should have...in this WMA every deer gets weighed and horns measured and teeth pulled mandatory...so over 70 years they know what there doing

That deer does not look that old and was probably a genetically engineered animal and grew up on someones private farm. It is becoming more and more evident that these record bucks we thought were wild animals roaming the mountains and deep forests were not that at all. Trophy bucks have become a big business much like other pro sports....business people go to great lengths to sell the billions of dollars worth of hunting products and that includes raising deer just to kill for the camera. Many of the bucks are basically pets...kind of like cattle...not afraid of humans at all! What it comes down too is sacrificing these pets for huge profits in product sales!

There's many ways people hunt deer and each has its own following of hunters. Saying ones method of hunting isn't hunting or doesn't provide a challenge is no different than anti hunters protesting all hunting. I stopped hunting deer because I just got tired of killing them. Not that I was depleting the population I decided it just wasn't what I wanted to do. Later I stopped all of my hunting giving up duck hunting last. It had become too expensive and I had to search year round to find decent spots where I could shoot big ducks over decoys calling them. To me that was duck hunting others were duck shooters but it wasn't right for me to put others down because they preferred a different method of taking them then I did. Here where I live deer hunters park their vehicles spaced along the road side many having pedestal boat seats on top of dog boxes waiting for hounds to run deer across highway. It wasn't my preferred way but those that do so like hearing the dogs running and enjoy it. Is it sporting? It is to those doing it. Many of the deer slip thru and most mature wall bucks are too smart to run across roads in daylight. Whos to say what hunting to some isn't to others. I still support and believe in the ethics of it but don't criticize others for not doing it like I did. Hunt safe.
