What I don't understand is that Rugby League gets far less viewers than rugby union according to tv viewer stats, so why is world rugby trying to cater to a smaller audience. I don't see fans complaining about the rugby, I only see coaches who's side didn't win and their national broadcasters complaining about the rugby.

Truth is, scrums especially when having to reset two or three times is kak. Also due to new laws to protect players today because their soft and can't take the punch like the old days. My issue with the potential changes to the bench is this. The leading factor behind this is the argument is around fatigue either causing a more open game or a safety concern. Let me pose this question and would love to hear a different understanding. there are 8 replacements. 99% of games the full bench will be utilized. What is the problem that the springboks decide to expose fatigue in their backline rather than their forwards? Why is this a problem. i could argue countries who utilize a 5-3 split are exposing more forwards to fatigue and injury than the springboks. the argument goes both ways. People are just hating. This is elite sport. Work harder and beat the springboks. simple. (although im a bok fan so hopefully not).
@user-qe1tv1bu2f

Ireland already exposed the boks, and 5-3 or 7-1 split doesn't really matter, we skidded through the world on the bones of our backsides by 3 x 1 points wins just. This does not tell me we were better, stronger,fitter, bomb squad, made different, wild dogs etc etc. If we won by 8-12 points X3 I would concur that , that is the advantage of playing fresh legs. It's true we caught up France and England, but we fckd up with ABs who caught up to us and we got real lucky the 3rd umpire was honest and their kicker did a manie libbok.

I agree as an AB fan that the new laws do not favour the Boks strengths. They did exactly the same thing when the Abs dominated the game. We in the Southern Hemisphere have less votes in World Rugby to maintain the laws and retain an amazing game. It is up to international coaches to catch up to the Boks ................not change laws. It must be remembered that the Boks are the best in the World but three games were only won by a point. Therefore that should not be a licence to change rules. Pissed off to say the least

Why don't you go and watch touch rugby or league rugby, Springboks never win 100% of the scrums. The best way to have counter the scrums is if you don't want to scrum give a penalty away then. Rugby used to be a game of power (forwards) and phase (backs). That's why you could see players with the likes of Joe Maller and Jason Robinson on the same field

I think they should also look at the tall people in the lineouts. The line out jumpers must not be taller than Faf. Also, why don't they limit the weight of players to 80Kg's. I think this is a teacup looking for a storm. We will still have scrums and lineouts, the 2 main elements that differentiate rugby from league, so the “sport for all shapes and sizes” remains. After watching rules changes for the last 50 years, one learns to adapt…… The other changes are logical too, including the red card situation. Once the preserve of the outright thuggery of yesteryear, with eye-gouging, biting, heat butts, and stomping, 80% of cards these days are more of an accidental nature, the result of a high-paced contact sport. The pendulum on that one has swung too far for mine……which proves I have my own biases as well I guess, lol. But as Tana Umaga once said “ rugby is not tiddlywinks”! I’d have also reduced the subs to 4 as well. That caters to the safety concerns, but brings back fatigue to the sport. I liked how rugby used to have a high aerobic requirement but is much less so now. We have too many players that can only last for 50 minutes max. I want to see how effective you are at the 70 minute mark and beyond! In my day, we only had injury reserves, but accept the need for subs……but 4 is enough.
@user-vz1fv9rn4y
@user-vz1fv9rn4y 23 күн бұрын
Rugby is an 80 minute game for elite athletes not forty minutes each for behemoths with out the stamina to go the distance. Fatigue should be the leveller between size/skills and stamina. As it used to be when there were only injury replacements. Fatigue naturally opens the game up and makes for a more balanced and open contest where skills and stamina count. It also means size is not the dominant consideration and coaches have to be better smarter. It’s not anti South African it’s anti dull.

You should have to admire the Springbok backs then in the RWC final of 2023 they had to go the distance and against the best attacking team in the world. There was only one backup. So if they get cramps or shoulder injury they still had to soldier on.

Not a lot to admire when the forwards provide most of the effort and backs get to run along and whatch on. You could admire a prop or lock hooker who can run the full 80 and still line up in the defence. There are very few and none in South Africa England or France.

The right way to handle the free kick from the scrum is. If your opponent gives a free kick away from the scrum then you can kick out and get the line out. Red card: if your player injure a player and that player has to leave the field then your team is stuck on 14. No sub after 20min. On the high tackles they should look at how the ball carrier ran the ball. How the hell are you going to stop a player like Antonio running at you elbows tucked into his knees

I’ll stick my head above the parapet…. I don’t really have an issue with these rules. I am an AB supporter though, and the AB scrum can match or better any scrum currently but it’s not the centrepiece of our game. I do understand why SA supporters don’t support this change though considering the success the Bok’s have had with their scrum lately. 20 minute red card rule as actually brilliant in my opinion. There’s foul play and there’s ‘foul’ play. Most of the red cards the last few years are for accidental head contact or poor technique. I have only seen one red card for genuine intentional foul play the last few years and that was a head butt from a Fijian Drua player in the super rugby this year. Glad to see the croc roll go and the DuPont rule applied. Finally, I do hope the soon to be trialled 30 sec setup limit for scrum and lineout and 60 sec for kicks comes in every where. There’s far too much dicking around in those parts of the game.

I miss the point of scrums. It takes up way too much frustrating time. Then the ball can be thrown towards your own team’s side. What is the point. Since the time of scrums being a hard competition of strength against strength (with ball in middle), it has really become a boring and foreseen action and result. I really wish useless scrums gone. Unless it becomes a meaningful honest battle for the ball again. With scrums the way they are, I do not see the point of forwards at all! …

The scrum in 22m after a mark call is a ridiculous law change. This call by Rassie was extremely risky. The risk is giving away a penalty or getting scrummed creating a turn over in our own 22m. It was there to show our scrum confidence and immense strength. This law change is deliberately directed to South Africa. Who are the people changing laws? The red card 20min law 😅. Your knowledge of SA rugby and rugby psychology is very poor. We can play both strength and running rugby, but all the world cups we won was because we dominate up front. Through these laws, aim specifically to eliminate SA dominance, world rugby are trying to destroy the hold of a 3rd world country on their elite sport.

Regardless of whether it effects SA negativity, how is it being perceived by every other rugby nation on earth? If that’s what’s popular across the world, so be it! There have been lots of changes over the years. Take the try…you know what it was called a try to begin with?

@@kelbatt7729 - Don’t you think the other team has a say in how many tries get scored? 9 finals, 13 tries in total. Not even Lomu was able to score a try in a final. But then he never scored a try against South Africa. Defence wins World Cups. Clearly.

free kicks that are kicked out should be given the line out throw just like a penalty which would give the dominant scrums team a great advantage. The only difference should be you can't kick for goal from a free kick. 20 min red card is great and is still a big disadvantage settle down bro.

The powers that be did the same sort of thing in the NFL. Which bought in new fans but pissed off the purists. I suppose World Rugby wants to bring in new fans, and make the game more of an offensive spectacle. Rugby has changed so much from 40 years ago, so you adapt and overcome I suppose

Why are we trying to change the game to rugby league. Winging Kiwi coaches Gatlin and Foster and alike seem to have all the answers on how the game should look. If you don’t like scrums then coach Rugby league. Fosters claim to fame is he took a World Cup winning side and turned it into a losing side. Leave the game alone there is nothing more exciting than a hard fought contest. Foster would have us believe that NZ beating Italy by 100 points is more entertaining than France v SA in the World Cup Or Ireland v SA or England V SA what Bollocks.

@nickeybotha2155

Absolutely. That is the beauty of the Springboks they can play either running rugby or not, their choice. Just go watch the SA vs All Blacks game at Twickenham before the world cup. Also go watch the SA vs France game in the quarters. Both these games were high running games with plenty tries. If we choose to play more conservative rugby in a final due to it being a final, we are entitled to.

First and foremost, I am a Springbok fan. But the current way rugby is being played (box kicks etc.) has got to change. The game was way more entertaining pre-Rassie era. Not his fault - he is just playing the rules. That is why we need this trail period. Keep the laws that work, change the one’s that don’t. Hope folks see the logic.

That's fine with me. Just means our runners will score more tries. Oh wait the new ruling is that springbok backline must play with one hand tied behind their backs. What is ridiculous is the assumption that the bokke win all their scrums. Have you seen how bokke get drilled, often enough by other scrums. Sports us meant to uplift, no kick people in the teeth, when they are winning. Ruddy wan,ers, all of them. People want to see scrums. That's one of the attractions. Rugby is going woke

And as for your isue with the 20 minute red card, which I think is great. How would you feel spening R100 000 to get to the final of a World Cup only for your team to be red carded in the 10th minute for an ACCIDENTAL head knock. But with this you at least know your team will have to survive 20 minutes and then they still have a chance. Your so biased it's ridiculous. If it happened to our team we would have been livid and screaming for changes, but because it didn't It's all good. Remember 2011? When it was the refs fault again It's not so lekker when the shoe is on the other foot, all I'm saying.
