I've said this many times about you and your channel: you're converting this city boy into a naturalist! Yes, "Double wow!" I'm not in the least claustrophobic (elevators, underground parking lots, airplanes) but I can't imagine diving in a cave. Ever. Thanks for doing the legwork. And, yes again, I prefer the turtle tomb theory, Liz. Regards and best wishes.

Looks like some shots at mabul island (macro). Sipadan has large stuff like you mention. But small stuff can be found at mabul nearby. Typically the tour will do a triangle of mabul, kapalai plus sipadan. So these 3 places is enough to see all. May i suggest Layang-Layang atoll. About 1 hour's flight from sabah to south china sea. Hammerheads can be found. Only 1 resort there. 1 airstrip.

This is one of the most remarkable U/W videos I have ever seen - an OUTSTANDING job! One suggestion: You might have someone take a picture of you shooting a macro-photo of a nudibranch. I have been diving for over 50 years and when a nudibranch photo appeared during your "shark encounter" session, my wife was stunned when I explained to her that they were so small. There was nothing to gage their size. Nevertheless, keep these video's coming!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Wow. For where i can see the videos you were in the forbiden area in the cave. There is a sign at the entry for a reason.
@followtheboat2 жыл бұрын
Hi Maxime. I'm afraid you are incorrect. We are PADI advanced divers and went with a local, qualified guide, the prerequisites for diving here. We stuck to the main chamber only. Oh, and there is no sign at the entrance! Perhaps there was years ago but we were one of the first groups to dive after lockdown, so maybe it got washed away.
@MaximeCheminade2 жыл бұрын
@@followtheboat I am affraid you are incorrect. I am a Openwater instructor/ full cave diver and i was last month doing the survey in this exact cave to open this cave to public in the future. Where you went, you are far away from open water limits. Its dangerous. We already recovered divers bodies from this section. Also, you can even see the sign at the entrance in your video.
@MaximeCheminade2 жыл бұрын
Exactly at 7:44 (the sign)
@followtheboat2 жыл бұрын
@@MaximeCheminade I'm afraid I don't see the sign! All I can say is our guide has been diving Sipidan for 20 years and he wouldn't have taken us in if he didn't feel comfortable with us. We did 20 dives under his instruction. As for the rules, perhaps this was a loophole after lockdown? IDK 🤔
@followtheboat2 жыл бұрын
We were fine. The dive was safe (as any dive can be). Our DM/instructor (with over 20 yrs experience in Sipadan) had confidence we could handle a fairly simple cave dive. As you say yourself, it's being surveyed so that it can once again open to the public. Don't worry about it. Liz

@followtheboat2 жыл бұрын
Hi Alice. Kapali is the best but the most expensive. There are cheaper dive resorts on Mabul. All operate out of Semporna. The dive instructor will tailor dives to your experience, be it beginner or advanced.

@followtheboat2 жыл бұрын
It's definitely not for the feint-hearted, Rosie. I'm not claustrophobic but even I got a bit anxious when the light from the entrance disappeared! You suddenly realise how potentially dangerous cave diving is 😮
@earthangel87302 жыл бұрын
Fantastic experience for the 5 of you. Tourism will ruin it as it almost always does .
@followtheboat2 жыл бұрын
Interestingly we got the full low down on why Sipidan closed to staying guests. It wasn't just the piracy attack, but the wash-off from the camps ashore. Sipidan is protected and only a limited number of people can visit each day, so from that point of view tourism is controlled. We did also hear that the wash-off from the near-by palm plantations (fertilisers) was causing a problem as well, but I need to verify that.
@keangwooichoo61382 жыл бұрын
Tourism can destroy it but no one lives on the island now unlike mabul or gaya island. If you hv humans living on islands there will be pollution eg sewerage , trash like plastic bottles. I wish islands like mabul and gaya can receive equal attention in terms of care and security. This can reduce sea trash from moving with currents and killing marine life.
